Just a little update that our PR has been approved. We collected our blue ICs earlier this month. We applied in Jan 2025 and received IPA in Oct 2025. In between, we kept informed every changes to ICA especially EP renewal, salary increment, passport renewal, etc.
Thanks for every single member who shared experiences, thoughts, and ideas. It helped a lot.
Congrats Tater!

This is a significant data point considering you were rejected in Oct, 2024 and reapplied just 3 months later in Jan, 2025. I wonder if they couldn’t capture the race change to Chinese on your first application and needed a fresh application that was unmolested? Any other changes on your new application?

Thanks @malcontent I think the race changes was not capture due to transition of old system to new system on 26 Jun. We applied our old application on Feb 2024 with old system. It might be a reason. Of course, race change alone won't help, we also had salary increments during second application.

Normal salary increments aren’t going to move the needle. But… the numbers and quality of the applicant pool versus the population needs for each of the CMIO categories at any given time is always an unknown, which is why nobody can predict outcomes with any certainty.

Haha, you are absolutely right. There was one more major update we've done. That was changing race of my son. Two weeks before IPA arrived, I checked my SingPass and found that my child was classified as Non-Chinese automatically. We didn't know that before. There was also no option to choose the race of the child during application of birth certificate. So, we quickly updated through MOM. Three days later, reflected in SingPass and, got our IPA.

The child’s race always defaults to the father, which at the time still showed Burmese I presume. You are not the first Chinese from Southeast Asia to be confused by this, over the years on this board we have seen Indonesian Chinese who used that as their race and were not deemed Chinese by the authorities and had to get it fixed.

Burmese Chinese is still Chinese, no less than Peranakan Chinese. Same for my daughter being Eurasian, she is just the new generation.

Can I check what are our chances to apply as a family? Wife taiwanese, total comp 55k/yr. Husband angmoh, total comp 250k/yr. Both been in Singapore for a decade. Husband got rejected thrice as single. Are our chances as joint application higher? Who should be main applicant?

- How long have you been married?
- What kind of passes are you both on?
- What are your ages?
- Is the wife’s race Chinese?
(2% of Taiwan’s population is indigenous Austronesian, so I have to ask)
- The husband’s country of origin?
- Both husband & wife are degree holders?

The recency of the marriage is the biggest thing working against you. Has the wife attempted PR in the past? If she was also unsuccessful, then this marriage (especially being recent) may not tip the scales for either of you. Keep in mind, age 35 is also considered the upper end of the recommended ages for women to have kids — while it may not be a deciding factor, it would at least be a consideration.

However, if she has never applied for PR before, at least you have an untested variable in your equation that could result in a pleasant surprise. Certainly no harm trying for PR now and you can always try again after your marriage “seasons” for two years… and if a child comes into the picture, all the better.

Married too recently without any children, low chance.

Husband’s high income is a potential flight risk since can easily find higher paying jobs in other countries.

Stay expat enclave or HDB?

She never applied, we stay in condo. I don't see myself a flight risk having been in Singapore for over 10 years and applying for PR 3 times, but I understand ICA may see it that way. Anyway, we've applied, now my expectations are appropriately low and if approved then it'll be a happy surprise :) Thanks all for your answers

@justinbridoux — do keep us updated, as data points like yours helps our collective knowledge base (detailed data is not available from any official sources). Just out of curiosity, do you miss France? I’ve been a few times, really love the countryside there.

The countryside is indeed beautiful. I love the lifestyle, food, quality and variety of produce, seasons and many more things. I don't miss it though, in the sense that I love living in Singapore, for whole different reasons. For my personal family situation Singapore is the best place to live, but Europe remains a nice traveling destination. Will keep you guys updated in hopefully 6 months :p

During my first trip to France in 2012, driving between Paris and Chamonix, I stopped at Châteauneuf-en-Auxois, a medieval village with a castle perched on a hill — a great rest stop… but what really struck me were the lush green rolling hills in the surrounding Côte d'Or region… truly stunning. I need to get back there someday!
