New in Town

Post by JimBob The Architect » Thu, 14 Oct 2021 11:09 am

I see that there is a 20's, 30's and a 40's club. No 50's club? I just got settled here and looking at being a bit more social. I live out on the west side and looking to meet some expats who may live on this side of the island. I am from California/Oregon.

Most of us over 50's are a lot younger at heart than that so tend to gravitate to the 40's (and 30's if we can get away with it. We used to have a FNDC before our 'hostess with the mostest' pass away and it kind of fell apart. Then covid happened and for the last two years virtually squat happening.

Well, I definitely fit the younger at heart description. I am 57, best friend is 34, and it is work to keep up with her, but I manage. Fortunately, I traveled during COVID, so I was not subject to being stuck in a box for a long time. Although Singapore is doing their best to try to prevent us from socializing.

I hear that. Next June will be then end of my 4th decade here. I turned 74 in Sept but still look like 60 act like 30 and feel like 80 the morning after when I manage to get out with some of the crew. But yeah, Covid has sure taken its toll on all of us. All we can do is just try to hang in there until we get a booster that will actually knock down the Delta Variant.

What does FNDC stand for? My best guess is Friday Night Dance Club, but that doesn’t make too much sense to me.

Friday Night Drinking Club!

I didn't like the crowd, so walked through one time only. Never again.

It's not easy with the current restrictions. I do suggest in addition to the limited social stuff on this forum you look at:

1. Church/s - the various expat oriented churches are good social hubs
2. American club and others
3. Meetups (on various topics) (www.meetup.com)

Tell us a little more about yourself. There are some other less open social groups on here that I've been invited to over the years but they need to know a bit about you it seems...
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

the usual Clark Q those bars, pubs
Orchard road some places.
MBS

Actually your neighbourhood coffeeshop already a place for hangout:) cheap yet you can get " more local " within the community.

My side here, there is one coffeeshop opposite is a condo. Partly due to this . Every night I will see the coffeeshop some expats, foreigners hang together sit there chill and drink beers , enjoy local foods.
