Joining Secondary school from International School

My son is in Grade 5 currently, in an International School. He is Nov-2013 born. If he were in local school, he would be taking PSLE this year and joining Sec 1 next year. He is a Singapore PR. What are all his options now for getting into Secondary School? About DSA route: he is not into any extra curricular activities level that could get him through DSA route..however he is really good in Mathematics and other academics. He has appeared in Sasmo Maths Olympiad last year and got bronze with one month of preparation. We are planning to start proper Olympiad coaching this month and make him appear for Sasmo and Kangaroo this year. even if he gets the topmost award in that, I am not sure if it is suffice to get him a secondary admission. I had also come across spers, but it looks like it is for returning Singaporeans only and not PR.
So what are all the options for him to get a secondary admission?

My understanding is DSA is considered from Pri 4 CCA onwards, like accumulated merits. Most people go for sports, musical instruments that's the most common for DSA. You would need to specifically go to each school DSA criteria and see what DSA option they have ie: certain sports and musical instrument.

But i might need to warn you it's very competitive, as some parents have already honed their children in competitions as young as Primary 1..
