Cost for 1 bedroom/1 bath apartment?

I'm a senior American who loved my time in Singapore in the 90s when my ship (I'm ex-Navy) docked there several times, and I'm now retired. I'm curious: How much per month should I expect to pay for a decent one-bedroom, one-bath apartment in Singapore these days? And is it even possible for a retiree to live there?

In the range of S$3,000-$4,000 a month depending on the location. Central areas likely fall in the $4k range. Suburbs should be $3k range.

The difficulty might be being able to rent as Landlords/agents have a legal obligation to prove that the tenant is a legal resident of Singapore. 3 mths of a social pass (tourist) won’t cut it for the length of a regular rental lease (1-2 yrs)
You might be able to lease a Service Apartment (shorter leases) and fly in/out of Singapore as needed but Service Apartments are more expensive.

The more important question is the one at the end of your post - is it possible for a retiree to live here.

The answer is no unless you are perhaps married to a Singaporean or permanent resident or you are a permanent resident yourself. For anyone other than the above 2 categories, you would have to come out of retirement, apply for a suitable work pass and if they approve you, then you would be able to live here long term. There are no retirement visas here.

Ya, if you haven't already established yourself here via employent (then PR if lucky) or family ties, it's just not possible to retire here. ICA website lists the criteria: https://www.ica.gov.sg/reside

Most ex-Navy who retire in Asia do so in the PI - especially in and around Subic/Olongapo. They even have a special retirement visa for US ex-military which is dirt cheap called “SRRV expanded courtesy” that it sounds like you’d qualify for it.

I think you’d do much better looking at that option instead.
