Need true advice on singapore
Need true advice on singapore
Hi All,
My name is Jay currently living and working in Melbourne, Australia. I migrated to Australia 10 yrs back to study and since then I have been here. I am from Indian background with parents back in India. I live by myself here. As a student I really had a very good time but since last few yrs since I have started working, I feel life here is too slow. No doubt that I love the work life here which is very relaxed and pays me well too. I am planning to relocate to singapore coz i am sort of over melbourne. I think its too slo here. Having lived my life in Bombay where there are people aound, busy streets, restaurants etc... melbourne gets on to me. I recently visited singapore for a week and loved it. I am now looking for a good paying job to move to singapore, but i have few doubts. Can someone pls help me here:
1- Is Work life very hard. late working hours?
2 - Racism?
3- how much salary is required to rent a good 2 bedroom flat and get a car?
4 - Can i afford a maid?
Pls help me here. Thanks

1- Is Work life very hard. late working hours? Yes & Yes
2 - Racism? Yes, but no more than the different castes in India.[/b]
3- how much salary is required to rent a good 2 bedroom flat and get a car? Depends on whether you want an HDB or a condo with full facilities and where it's located. $1200 to 5000/mo. Car is another story. from $27K for a car you can only drive between 7 PM and 7 am and on weekends to 250K for a good Porche or 1.5 million for a Roller.
4 - Can i afford a maid? If you are single, no. Otherwise if you can afford the Condo and the Car then a maid should be a piece of cake. Least expensive of the three.
Pls help me here. Thanks

Nope. Haven't you ever noticed the cars with all red background tags during the evening hours and on the weekends?

It was more because i was wondering why i had seen them during the daytime as well.
heya singapore rocks pple are just the best , just moved here myself from hk. loving everday here. its truely multi-cultural. expensive or not depends solely on ur lifestyle. if u need to hire a car it wrks out startin 1500 sin dollars, cars are really really expensive here just to many taxes, erps cte and god knows howmany more things. arnd orchard area living wud cost anywhr between 2000 to 3000 for a decent accomodation for one person
weekend cars
u see them in the normal day time because they can purchase a permit to use them in normal hours as well as free usage after 7pm and on weekends and public holidays.
I'm 1000% agree with huggybear, after living here for almost 2 years, I found Singapore not as lovely & rosy as when I was visiting/vacationing here....huggybear wrote:the only thing i would like to add is that visiting / vacationing in a destination is different then living there. if you truly want to move why don't you consider new york / HK / London, etc?

Isn't that with any country??? New York was a blast to visit (I visited NYC atleast 12-15 times a year to hang out) but once I started working there, it wasn't so much fun. It was crowded, lot of pushing and lots of really RUDE people. All the charm disappeared real fast!iis wrote:I'm 1000% agree with huggybear, after living here for almost 2 years, I found Singapore not as lovely & rosy as when I was visiting/vacationing here....huggybear wrote:the only thing i would like to add is that visiting / vacationing in a destination is different then living there. if you truly want to move why don't you consider new york / HK / London, etc?
Same for London, friend of mine who got tired of the US moved to London only to completely hate it. She loved it as a tourist but a different story once she started living there. She complained how expensive it was out there and how difficult it was to get simple things done!
Common - every place has it's + and - so it's really upto you. I stayed in the US for 10 years and just moved to Singapore absolutely love this place - atleast what I've seen and experienced so far. Yeah, there are some negative points such as the fact that cars are so expensive and land lords can be like war lords. My company wants me to go back to the US in 1-2 years but I definitely would give this place a thumbs up over the US.
