Singaporean male sponsoring PR for Aussie fiance

Post by insert_username » Fri, 27 Nov 2020 4:27 pm

Singaporean male here who spent a few years abroad and is engaged to an Aussie lassie whom he met while residing down under.

I am currently building up my career in Singapore and have. Ever since my return, for the past few years, I have periodically visit her down under once a month to stay over the weekends with my fiance.
For the record, my fiance has visited Singapore once and only once to stay for a week and she did not enjoy the hustle and bustle - she's very much a country girl who enjoys her weekend barbi in the backyard over beers.

Let's suppose our marriage have been registered in Singapore.

A few questions:

1. How difficult would it be for a local to successfully obtain a PR, visitor permit or a long - term visitor pass, for their foreign partner who is from a developed country?

2. For those whose female partners moved from Australia to Singapore, was there an initial dislike towards the change in living environment only for her to start getting used to the environment?

3. She works for the Victoria government - should she expects any complications in being granted a PR or a long - term visitor's pass?

4. She's on a remuneration package above 100k a year so by no measure counts as being on welfare support in down under. She certainly is earning more than I am (for now) and both of us are in our 20s.

What are the chances her PR or long - term visitor pass may be granted?

You should move to Australia. It is a much more straight forward process with none of the built in discriminations here that will exist for a first world white woman.

Also you can't apply PR for a fiance - only for a spouse. And normally you go LTVP then PR.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

I can’t second that enough - why drag her to Singapore? You said she doesn’t like the hustle & bustle, and there are plenty of other irritants she will have to adapt to. This is especially true at your age, junior level positions in Singapore are usually lower pay, and it will require a major lifestyle adjustment.

I know all this first hand, because I uprooted myself from the US to follow a girl to SG when I was in my 20’s! I went from having my own apartment and driving my own car to renting a room in an HDB and taking a bus. I had no A/C, I had cockroaches flying into my window at night, and my job paid about 30% less than what I was getting in the US. It was a real test of my fortitude, let me tell you!

I am unaware discrimination exists for first world white woman - did you meant that discrimination exists for anyone who is racially white?

Does the registry of marriage in Singapore accepts marriage certificate from Australia? Thank you, I do intend to upon obtaining my Australia permanent residence.

I missed this and probably far too late. What does ROM have to do with a marriage cert in Australia? I married my wife in Australia and our marriage cert has been accepted many times in Singapore for various things.

If I can successfully sponsor LTVP and PR for my very white American husband, your very white future Aussie wife should stand a chance as long as you are:

1. Employed in Singapore on a decent salary that can support two people

ICA doesn’t discriminate against white people from first world countries. They just aren’t heavily scrutinised as potential mail order brides from SEA countries.

At least two MPs (Louis Ng and Jamus Lim) are married to white women. I think there are others from the older generation of politicians who are married to Caucasian foreigners too. (Just showing an example that the govt isn’t anti-first world regarding foreigner spouses)

If your lass already dislikes city life, she’ll be miserable here. Stay in Australia.
