Possible for foreign spouse to get LTVP+PLOC while still working overseas?

Post by golden_retriever » Wed, 29 Oct 2025 11:17 pm

Hi, I am a Singapore citizen and my fiance has Chinese citizenship and is currently working in the UK. I am wondering, after getting married, is it possible for her to get LTVP + PLOC while she is still working in the UK? Ideally we would prefer that she can continue working in the UK while she looks for a job in Singapore (since the job market in both the UK and SG are quite tough now).

I understand that both of us will have to physically go down to ICA to complete LTVP formalities. Also before LTVP is approved, the spouse has to go for medical check-up for HIV & tuberculosis. Must the medical checkup be done in Singapore, or is overseas also acceptable?

And after the spouse gets the LTVP and PLOC, can she continue to work in the UK? And how long would she need to be in SG to complete the LTVP + PLOC paperwork (hopefully can fit within annual leave).

I am currently employed and living in SG. We have been dating for a few years now, and really want to close the LDR gap. Thanks everyone for helping.

Not sure why this post didn’t get a response, but I can take a stab (others can correct me).

I believe it is possible to apply for an LTVP from overseas, and my understanding is that every LTVP application is automatically considered for LTVP+ which includes employment authorization. However, if they only give LTVP without the plus, then PLOC is needed once they have a job offer in Singapore.

However, keep in mind that your scenario is complicated by the fact that you’ll be newlyweds and can expect added scrutiny — I think having a job and working visa in the UK helps reduce doubt (since this migration isn’t likely to be an upgrade).

Not entirely.

There is a criteria: Couples who have at least one child who is a Singapore Citizen from their marriage will be eligible to apply for the LTVP+.

Newlyweds definitely won’t be considered for LTVP+

To answer OP’s question, LTVP is to live long term in SG. It will be hard to justify her being granted LTVP while she is still essentially living & working overseas.

And even after being granted the LTVP, if she doesn’t move to SG, subsequent renewal of LTVP will also be hard since she isn’t physically living in SG.

You can always email ICA whether medical check up can be done overseas.

How long the paperwork takes depends on how long ICA scrutinies and processes the application.

I know you want job & financial stability for both parties. But sometimes you have to take risks and one party has to temporarily sacrifice employment. Have enough savings before you do so.
