Getting out of a Singtel contract

Post by Wellman » Thu, 06 May 2010 2:12 pm

Say if I had a one year contract with Singtel for an iPhone, is there any way I could get out of it without having to pay the 800 dollars cancellation charge?

Yes. Cancel it after 1 year.

I asked the question because I might not be able to do this, I may have to leave Singapore within the year.

For sure they will not let you walk away for free. You may visit their customer service and try to negotiate for lower fee.

Move your contract to the lowest available tarriff and leave that money in your bank account. It will work out cheaper to pay off the contract than to pay the $800 exit fee. You may find another expat who is looking to take over the remainder of the contract as they don't want to sign for 2 years.

Back on-topic, yes; it may be cheaper to just set up something to pay off the remaining months.

I haven't signed up for it yet but I want to. Probably a year contract but there's a slight chance I could be moved out of Singapore within that year.

Complain about signal strength

Post by Levikane » Mon, 14 Jun 2010 10:11 pm

I If you have bad reception at your home or office, you could complain about the lack of signal strength. They will send out a technician, and if your concerns are founded it is grounds for cancellation. You may still have to compensate the unpaid $$ of the phone though.

Buy the phone outright and get a month by month plan.
