How to offer a pet for free?

Post by malcontent » Thu, 22 Aug 2024 1:21 am

Carousel doesn’t seem to allow “selling” pets. But what about giving it away for free?

My daughter has a holland lop rabbit that is age 7 that she wants to offer for free, but isn’t sure how or what platform is best.

Any advice?

There are some pet adoption groups on Facebook. Does your development have an electronic communication board/app? Post a message or for sale listing ($0) there - often someone will take the pet.

I'm not sure about any of the shelters? They may only take cats and dogs.

Offer a rabbit cage and free food on carousell - that usually gets people to work out you're offering the rabbit as well IME.

Try local community groups on Facebook or other pet rehoming platforms like Petfinder or Rehome. Sometimes, animal shelters or rescue groups can help, too.

I'm an old farm boy. Rabbit stew is a good alternative.....Or deep-fried like chicken.

As much younger boys, we decided that the rabbit we had shot would be best prepared on a smoker, a la, a brisket. And so, after cleaning and skinning, and a suitable application of a spice rub, our rabbit went into the smoker for hours.

We got the rabbit out, ready for our feast. The first thing we noticed though, is that even the sharpest of our knives wouldn't cut through this rabbit. It was so hard from sitting in that smoker you could pound nails with it. It was absolutely amazing... we had come up with the perfect recipe for fossilized rabbit...

Never thought about a smoker. Glad I didn't. LOL I actually like rabbit, squirrel and occasionally muskrat stew. Muskrats are a bit to small to enjoy but I was just a preteen and just above when we used to trap them for the hides. Used to get a buck fifty for a nice one. was a lot of money back 60 years ago. Don't even know if there is a market for those hides anymore (made good gloves back then).

My grandpa liked to cook us up possum (at least that is what he always claimed when we asked what meat it was). Who knows what it really was… could never tell if he was joking or serious.
