It's not a "homosexual" disease. That happens to be the first vector for the spread, and the disease can be contracted by anyone in a variety of ways, including sexual transmission.

Now there are eight cases in Singapore. I can’t help but be reminded of the start of Covid, so needless to say I am terrified.

I must disagree, though it seems like they are more prone to contracting it.

Right, it’s not exclusive to any group of people. I think the focus is on the fact that it can be transmitted sexually, so as long as you’re playing around with fluids during intercourse you are absolutely vulnerable.

Yes but heterosexual people do this too.

I suspect, but because the scientists are scared of the gay PC element and won't emphasise it (shades of AIDs) that the vectors include anal intercourse and faeces contamination.

My old GP made it clear to me that he considered back in 83 the primary path of infection for HIV was downstream anal intercourse due to the absorbent nature of the rectum vs the vagina and to keep that in mind as I grew up. I've seen nothing but evidence in support for his antiquated views since then.

I wonder what he'd think of Monkeypox. I can't ask him as he died of smoking induced cancer in the 2000s.

That’s certainly interesting. I happen to believe that the virus doesn’t discriminate, though there are certainly things you can do to increase your chances of contracting it.

No where did my post target homosexuals.

There could be heterosexuals (and other people on the LGBTQ+ umbrella) with this kind of kink/fetish too.

No I wasn't implying that (I appreciated your comment hence why I reposted it). I think the lesson from AIDS is that the disease will not be community bound to specific groups for long.

Gotcha. Yeah, the scientists are definitely preventing a repeat of the AIDS-gay stigma and being more mindful of their word choice this time.

Here is what I’ve gathered from briefly skimming the news… monkey pox is not that dangerous or deadly - you can be treated and fully recover. It’s not airborne at the present time and similar to Hepatitis B, it’s spread via blood & body fluids. If necessary, the small pox vaccine would be effective against monkey pox should it become necessary. Am I missing anything?
