Damn, MS Access :) Fun times, and still rocks, within it's limitations - until Microsoft started pushing SQL Express.

I know some of my friends, who decided to stick with Cobol and lot of them are in high demand, considering a lot of others moved away from Cobol thinking there is no future for Cobol !!!
As a counter example, the Delphi programming language has plenty of fans but practically no new people are learning it. Some companies are moving on to C# just because people who know it who aren't gonna retire very soon plus tools licensing cost is starting to become unsustainable.

In Singapore an MS Access developer will get paid about 3-4k a month.

Exactly, you have to find the niche that fits.

My man in the UK is earning over GBP150K.

what about medium sized data and above averag size data?
j/k, there are quite a few workgroups in singapore doing discussions, suggest you join them
but the high salaries for Big Data go to the guys who know how to derive intelligence (so they have some domain knowledge and what questions needs answering), not the guys who do the coding, nowadays lots of tools can do that for you, specially in an enterprise setting
