I left Singapore permanently around 2 years ago. Before I left, my final payslip showed a deduction labelled “IR21 Tax Clearance” for S$XXX.
I recently checked my IRAS account and found that there is still an outstanding balance of the same amount and have confirmed on the oustanding amount from IRAS.
From what I understand, this may mean that the amount was deducted from my salary, but the payment may not have been fully remitted to IRAS.
If that is the case, it does not make sense that I would need to pay again out of my own pocket for an amount that was already deducted from my wages.
I have already contacted both IRAS and MOM and am currently awaiting their responses and clarification on the next steps.
I am currently overseas, so I’m trying to understand how cases like this are usually resolved and what I should expect next. Any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated.
