I just got an offer of roughly S$ 180,000 /annum gross salary with local package. I am married with 4 kids. Do you think the offer is good enough for me ?
You will need $180,000 per year just to put 4 kids through International School.

$70,000 per year is enough to put 4 kids through local secondary school (excluding tutor expenses) assuming non-ASEAN passport holders... provided they can even secure seats in local schools.

Your biggest expense will be your children's education. For private schools, the fees range from 15K to 50K a year per child. Local schools are more affordable but it is difficult for foreigners to be admitted due to limited vacancies. Medical expenses are also expensive here so your family needs to be covered by insurance.

Local schools are not so affordable anymore. The 2021 cost of secondary school fees for a non-ASEAN child is $1450x12=$17,400 per child, plus most parents will feel compelled to engage tutors so their kids can more effectively cope in the local system... that can easily add up to 5 figures annually. This is the reality on the ground.

I went to the Ministry of Statistics (or something like that) and saw that median Database Administrator salary is only 3,000. Surely that is inaccurate?

SGD90K/pa is equal to roughly 42 lakh pa or 7.5K SGD/month

Not sure where the OP is getting his numbers from.

Hi, does anyone have any experience in working for the likes of a Singtel, Starhub or adjacent industries in Senior Product Management, Marketing or Consulting roles?

Some of the research I have done with regard to average salary for example in Morgan Mckinley or a Robert Walters etc does not seem to line up with what I am seeing in terms of salary range of job ads (typically half of what I might expect given 20+ years experience). I've looked at the Kelly Personal Services salary guide for 2024 and see this is partially in line with what i am seeing on say jobstreet, and as such perhaps not that compelling if I compare that against the cost of renting by myself.

Has the market turned or am I looking in the wrong places or a bit of both?

Any guidance appreciated.

One of the junior staff at the major MNC where I worked for was recruited by Singtel, he took the leap just for a small pay increase. He later confessed to me how much he regretted it. So, I would say pay should not be the main thing.

When it comes to senior product managers, pay at the MNC that I worked for was in the S$250-300k range (annually), which is pretty much in-line with what the same job paid in the U.S., but the level of responsibility is significant - you are basically the entrepreneur of a multi-billion dollar business, and calling almost all of the shots.

Thanks, this is useful and is aligned then if not broadly. Added responsibility is not so much the issue and personally pay has to be a factor i.e. no point moving country if you are moving backward significantly. I will just keep looking. Thanks!
