Concerns

Post by bronrg » Tue, 24 Dec 2024 6:06 pm

I have a feeling I know what is the answer, but here it goes...

I have a friend here from Brazil. He doesn't like it there and doesn't want to go back. He has a high school education but took a course in networking at a university.

He has no family here, just me as a friend, and I have not a lot of money.

What even are his chances here? Is there even anything we can do from here? I don't want to have to send him back but... I'm not too sure what to do.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, but I have a feeling I know what is coming...

I should add something to this. Anyone who knows how to find a work for a Work Permit, greatly appreciated.

My biggest issue rn is all the websites that have 'quota' in it are 'no quota for foreign workers', which sucks a lot.

If not, I'm also willing to hear the statement that I need to let him go... although I don't want to do that.

I’m not following your story. You make it sound like they are “living here” now and not just visiting… how exactly did they get here and how are they able to reside here currently? Are they on a social visit pass? How did they come here in the first place? Did they come alone? Backpacking around Asia? How do you know them?

@malcontent, they are a friend of mine, on a social visit pass. Uh, they got here by plane and are living in a hotel. Came alone. I met them online.

You say they are “living” in a hotel, so they have most all of their worldly possessions with them in contemplation of moving to Singapore if they are able to?

The mode of transportation between Brazil and Singapore is not in question. The question is, what was the purpose of their visit? Was it a vacation or purely a scouting trip to see what the possibilities are for moving to Singapore?

When I first moved here from the Americas, I also had no job and started out on a social visit pass. But, I was the pig at the breakfast table, not the chicken.

Yeah, they are comtemplating on moving.

Uhh, it is a scouting trip to see what is the possibilities, yes. But it turns out that there really are not any possibilities, based on what I've seen across the last few weeks...

I would put the odds of success at a very small fraction that rounds to zero.

Additionally, the elephant in the room is that he only has a High School Diploma (A level locally). Not likely to even pass the minimum academic requirements required here now.

As the population on this island continues to swell, the bar is raised to allow only the best, brightest and most assimilatable.

Put another way, the organic matter taking up the limited space here needs to generate maximum value while simultaneously not causing social rifts.

IMO the best place for Brazilians to migrate to is Australia. I know many there who have settled in well.

Sounds like you're not telling the full story.

What kind of "friend" would fly to another country and stay there for good after meeting a "friend".

No shame in saying he's your LDR bf lah.
