Re: Increase in CPF Contribution rates from January 2023
No one is going to crater the SS system in the USA without some sort of catastrophic force majeure event occurring (nuclear war for example). I know it runs at a deficit (well two out of three parts do) but as a sovereign issuer of currency the USA can print money to keep it afloat. Same as the Aust...

Re: Increase in CPF Contribution rates from January 2023
What I don't understand is caps on CPF, Super (Australia), SS (USA), Kiwisavings (NZ). I understand it's capped because there is some sort of subsidization via tax benefits taking place but frankly there should not be a cap because inflation and lifestyles render caps too low for true retirement sav...

Re: Appealing against traffic offense in Singapore
To appeal in person you take the notice down to Ubi TP HQ and get a Q number (you are "querying the offense notice"). At least you used to. I'm sorry I cannot be much more help. I "almost" ran an amber/red yesterday myself - I swear it was only amber for 1 second it changed so fast. I basically ski...

I still think of Mexico as a possible part time retirement location but I suspect the crime will drive me out.

Agreed Mal.
One point though that CPF does have a type of survivor benefit in that you can pass it on.

Re: Increase in CPF Contribution rates from January 2023
NYY1 - most of here earn well above the cap on CPF (if not in salary then from investments and businesses). It's very annoying. I'd happily put in 100k a year into CPF if I could. I see. I thought based on the median household income there would likely be a reasonable number of people below the cap...

Re: Increase in CPF Contribution rates from January 2023
I would suggest you take a look at what portion of the population can save (and does save) those amounts. If you are above those levels you don't have a problem; just save/invest in any account. It's enforced savings. By not adjusting it upwards regularly against inflation the entire country goes i...

Re: Citizenship Application - Dilemma about the primary applicant
I'm in Oil and Gas. The govt support for upstream is pretty pathetic. They've lost WFT, SLB and a few other major service company HQ's in the last decade and don't care it seems. I think BH are looking at moving out too.

I was surprised at how poor the offerings were in Target and Walmart last week. There seemed to be a real stock shortage.

Re: Increase in CPF Contribution rates from January 2023
It's long long overdue. The gahmen slashed the rates back in the recession before the last one and it's taken decades to have these rates come up. It had really hit the retiring boomer generation.

Re: Appealing against traffic offense in Singapore
She should appeal. You can do it two ways. Either in writing or in person at the Traffic Police office in Ubi (or at least you used to be able to do so). The other thing is she may be offered an option to do a course which reduces the penalty. My wife ran a red a few years ago on the way to church a...
