Re: Cutting out the middleman: renting directly from the landlord

ask to sight the property tax bill and his ID. don't deal directly with the LL unless you know your schizz. AND... don't sign the TA until it is fully satisfactory to you. ask for a soft word copy to review. amend as you wish, send it back. when all parties are happy... YOU print it and provide the ...

Re: Tennis court on rooftop of condo - noise issue?

i go to a gym that's located near 2 tennis courts (located on the ground floor next to the building housing the gym). it's a racket (to me). i also have been under a roof which housed a pool above. with the kids running about (it was a house warming - landed property) it was a din even through the h...

Re: Issuing invoices as a consultant

Hi I am here on a dependent's pass and would like to continue working for my employer in France on a consultancy basis. MOM have explicitly stated that I do not need an employment pass, as I will effectively have no business presence in Singapore. However, to issue invoices to my employer, I appear...

Re: Filipino Web Developer chances of landing a job?

I have a bachelor's degree in IT but don't have any professional experience at the moment because I've been freelancing since I graduated. I've been considering moving to Singapore because the pay in my country is low. I have knowledge in 2 PHP frameworks (Kohana 3.3.6 and Codeigniter 3.1.5), I can...

Re: Moving to Singapore and Long term prospects

however you read it, the racial riots of 1964 were political attempts to stir tensions between singapore malays and the other races during a critical period that may have seen Singapore's demise. july's riots were attributed to malaysia, and september's riots, the indonesians. it (and other nearby r...

Re: Cashless Society!

nothing is truly "free" in this world, especially when big data is involved. someone has to pay for the costs of running and maintaining the system and losses from hacking (and the loss of privacy). sadly, it'll almost always be the consumers on the losing end. cashless isn't better. it's ...

Re: bringing a cigar through customs

~$140/400g (35.2c/gram - 400g max). they will weigh your cigars and charge you accordingly. and then they will charge you GST on your cigars so bring your receipt along. and they might want to search your bags if they don't quite like the look of you. and some times there's a wait. for everything. d...

Re: NCD - Is UK one valid here?

last week i called up 2 insurers to get answers and was told today something similar to what x9 said... "it depends on the applicant's profile, and even if offered, the NCD can be removed at any time..." and that once their system had been updated with certain details, my later application...

Re: NCD - Is UK one valid here?

fair enough... this was 2010'ish: i approached INCOME and directasia directly but both rejected my overseas NCD for motorcycles. this chap (broker from the used car dealer IIRC) said no dice, but was happy to accept my overseas NCD as proof that i had no accidents in the 3 years prior or i would not...
