Re: Stamford American vs Canadian Internat'l vs Dover Court?

FWIW I wouldn't even put the names UWC and Nexus in the same sentence. The former is one of the better educational options on the island, whereas the latter is not in the same league so to speak. In terms of profit or other goals I think they're all quite similar in the end. Last time I checked some...

Re: DBS vs. CitiBank: Opening accounts vs. ease of use

Just to add, DBS and POSB share ATMs and POSB is one of the most common ATMs around Singapore (especially for commoners). You tend to see more DBS ATMs in expat-ish areas and POSB in heartland areas. Citi is always in every MRT stations. For almost every transaction, you can pay using online bankin...

Re: AirAsia QZ8501 - Another missing flight!

Exactly, it's quite uncommon to lose a plane at this stage of a flight. I think what we witnessed was not so much a general structural issue based on wear and tear (as just as you mentioned planes are built and expected to withstand enormous stress throughout their life-span), but rather extreme eff...

Re: DBS vs. CitiBank: Opening accounts vs. ease of use

You can pay telco or Singapore Power (includes gas and water) bills directly via internet banking. For telcos you can also pay onine using CCs. Not sure using foreign CCs is a good plan, even with no special fees you will likely still be hit with fat currency conversion rates on each transaction. Pl...

Re: Next GE predictions?

they allowed property price to rise so much. It is easily the biggest expenditure in a household. Many people felt trapped having to pay such an astronomical sum. It is also a very divisive issue. Some wants it to go up while others want it to come down. They "snookered" themselves into this situat...

Re: Russia is F#*ked!

Russia's economy is a one trick pony and reality has finally hit the fan. Russia is like a guy high on dope who thinks he's superman and that he can fly. In truth they are a superpower on the same level that their Rouble (or rather Rubble) is a global super-currency. :) Their economy is the size of ...

Re: AirAsia QZ8501 - Another missing flight!

If correct it seems to suggests an extreme weather afterall. Seems like it right now, even though it is extremely rare to lose a plane due to atmospheric conditions at this stage of the flight. Still surprised that not a single word was uttered via the radio... I guess we'll have to wait until the ...

Re: Offshore company vs local Pte Ltd

In about a year, I'll move to Australia full time for personal reasons, and never intend to apply for PR or citizenship in SG for the same reasons. Well, if this is indeed the case you will not be able to just run an offshore company from Australia without local tax laws coming into force. It does ...

Re: iTunes

Careful as sometimes there is a slight change and iTunes has been known to treat the same film as a different product, with the "version" you purchased no longer available. It has happened with popular titles too, so it's not just the odd film that everybody has forgotten.

Re:

Getting 100Mbps on a 100Mbps plan is a true achievement on its own. Is there a way of actually measuring real world speed accurately? I used Ookla speedtest on my Mac Pro connected to the router via Ethernet. I have 200Mbps fibre and the download speed Ookla reported was 204Mbps. Doesn't seem plaus...

Re: Streaming and Downloading

Netflix and Hulu are still your two main choices out there. If you want to purchase content and download it you ought to be looking towards the likes of iTunes and Google Play. There you can download the content, put it on all your Apple devices from phone to pads or even laptops, or even stream you...

Re: POOR PEOPLE HAVE NO ACCESS TO JUSTICE

Who would not benefit? Ummm... big corporations, who are otherwise immune to any sort of legal proceedings from the common folk who naturally cannot afford to take them on even when they have a clear case? :) Amazing how you cannot enter into a simple agreement whereby someone can take on a legal c...

Re: DBS vs. CitiBank: Opening accounts vs. ease of use

Does a Citi account afford me as much "local flexibility" as an account with DBS, however? Do I get NETS with a CitiBank account? And does it really matter anyway? It depends on what you mean by "local flexibility." What exactly are you looking for from your bank? For everyday stuff they're pretty ...
