Re: When Will Singapore Move Into the Modern Era

Yes, that country can be so avante garde. Incredible India ! Singapore will only jump on the bandwagon after the wide spread adoption by the rest of the world. For now, it is missionary impossible lah.

Re: Good/bad things about Singapore

Yeah Singapore is quite easy to make friends actually, people are not so distance as swedish people haha It kindof depends on what kind of "friends" you want to make, right? Despite being of Asian extract myself, I find it easier to get along with the Swedes. Their culture has that nice balance of ...

Re: Even a Crazy Rich Asian cannot dodge NS/CMPB!

All the above points are valid. We have relatives who migrated out of Germany and moved to America, generations ago, as they did not want to have anything to do with the war or the military. Although not completely similar, but what do you say about such individuals in today's context? Should leavin...

Re: Even a Crazy Rich Asian cannot dodge NS/CMPB!

Frankly, as long as Singapore insists on their draconian policies, I think we are going to see more and more of this in the future. Vindictiveness does not need to be a one-way street. It is equal opportunity for all :P . By the same measure, do not be surprise by the large number of people who try...

Re: The Human Story

It is not terrifying to realize my own smallness in the larger scheme of things. But in fact, liberating and humbling at the same time. Which is why I never bought into ethnocentricism or nationalism. Or tribalism. And then there are those who challenged this lackof "but then very few people think l...

Re: Is HDB a prepaid flat rental or an asset?

And if I may contradict myself, ironically, the egalitarian in me does not quite agree with this concept of the philanthropy of the wealthy either. That the less fortune needs to hang around pining for the charity of the moneyed class. There is something inherently wrong with this picture. It almost...

Re: Is HDB a prepaid flat rental or an asset?

Entrenched generational wealth limits social mobility making it a less egalitarian and just society. However, it is in the human nature, at least in a capitalistic model, to have this desire to work hard and accumulate wealth and pass it on to your children. Cause you care about them. How can we str...

The much needed reform for the cops in USA which has been beseiged by bad press . And the wide spread gun ownership does not help matters either. https://www.facebook.com/CollectiveEvolutionPage/posts/10156585266418908 https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/salt-lake-city-police-de-escalation_us_591c9...

Re: Singlish

Do you really want to know what I think of Singlish? To keep it brief, it is another example of corner-cutting. The half-hearted and couldn't-be-bothered attempt at mastering a language. Sentences are cut short and abrupt, with little attention to grammatical structure. It takes on the structure of ...

USA

The anti-intellectualism that is America is pretty annoying ! And then there are those self-professed "I am bad in math". I understand each of us is a unique being and we have our own unique aptitude but it can become self-perpetuating. Disclaimer ~ I am not much of a math person myself, I don't lik...

Re: Singapore elderly?

I was this person. Living overseas and interacting with other cultures transform my personality. It took decades of hard work on my part to unlearn these bad habits. I am one of the lucky one cause I have met many overseas Singaporeans who are still stuck in a rut. And also, it is not normal nor hea...

Re: Singapore elderly?

Confucianism is a philosophy and social structure that lays out the code of conduct and social responsibilities of members of the society. It is an attempt to create a peaceful and orderly society. Widely endorsed within the Japanese culture and not so much by the Chinese. Although the latter, espec...
