Re: Ideal retirement locations

JR8, I do not have that thirst of travel or buying abroad now. The SG residence is challenging enough and abroad enough. In my younger days, I had a place in KL, no way will I try that again. We have never been that expat - 3 years here, 3 years there sort of family. We decamped here to work hard sa...

Re: Where to get a diamond ring in Singapore

Even at Hatton Gardens, you need the recommended jeweller that won't charge you the "tiffany" price. There are similar jewellers here in SG that do one-off stuff at a fraction of the GBP58,000 tiffany ring. I had it made last year here ala tiffany stylo. For a fraction of the price and then bill the...

Re: Ideal retirement locations

JR8, I was back in my ole stomping ground in August and Oct. There are more cafes now where a nice old man used to own a small art gallery, the health food store is gone, my old shabby chic caf is gone replaced by "shock horror" gluten free, dairy free café, a vintage furniture shop is now Cowshed. ...

Re: Where to get a diamond ring in Singapore

We did neither - no big shiny rock vs stone or the 300 guest reception either. Instead it was Camden townhall for us and settled for buying a old pink carpeted & curtained apartment instead and haven't looked back since.
However, hubby always said that he bought sofa instead.

Re: Some interesting currency moves today

So, punishing middle class people that are using B2L as a way of funding their pension is shocking. Middle class folks that are using B2L is order to ensure that their children get on the property ladder is another shocking matter. UK bombing Syria and how on earth are we going to fund it all is the...

Re: Some interesting currency moves today

Following Mr. Osbourne's Autumn Statement, it was interesting in that what wasn't said resounded louder than what was said. We now seem to have a govt aim at punishing middle class, people that work hard, save, prudent with their finances and prepare for a rainy day, have the foresight to think abou...

Re: How to Adult 101: Getting out of Singapore!

Manheim is a 90mins train ride into Frankfurt, so, in terms of food or niche items, it's easily accessible. Manheim itself is a quaint town, small, its residents are mainly that big chemical giant.

Re: Some interesting currency moves today

I received this from one of the expat wealth advisors this week "An International Monetary Fund executive member has warned that the world could fall into another financial crisis leading to a global recession as governments are not paying enough attention to the current market instability. IMF head...

Re: Some interesting currency moves today

Mine is pretty much UK/US centric but it is a SIPP so long term views. Money Week this weekend advocated dumping of US stocks.

Re: Some interesting currency moves today

JR8, I feel screwed. typical middle class being squeezed from left right and centred by the politicians. I mean seriously, over 5% rental yield. Why is the BOE getting involved? What's this idea of govt intervention in everything? Why the assumption that BTL landlords are rich? Is it wrong of me to ...
