Re: Muslim women who won't shake your hand.

... Then there is that painfully awkward moment when it's not reciprocated and you're standing there wondering why, and you feel embarrassed and/or stupid, and perhaps somewhat annoyed too... their beliefs trump your social comfort . So, it took me by surprise and left me irritated. You said it you...

Re: Understanding rental payment behaviours in SG

How do you make paying rent "rewarding"? Either the landlord is paying, or the tenant is paying. Either way you have a party that is out of pocket on account of the "rewards". Sign contract > get landlord account details > set up monthly transfer > forget about it until you move out. Simples. How ar...

Re: Halloween at senstosa

The problem is, people attending Halloween Horror Nights at USS are not permitted to wear costumes.
This is to ensure guests don't confuse staff with other guests.
So unless you pay to see the actors inside, you're not gonna see much.

Re: Moving to SG with a pet dog (Beagle)

It hasn't been mentioned yet - but your Beagle is not an approved breed for the government's HDB list. Meaning, you can't rent an HDB apartment and keep your dog there. If you're earning enough to rent a condo/landed property this won't be an issue. Secondly, none of the Condos I have ever lived in ...

Element14 is a bit like RS Components. (used to be Farnell). Also have online in Singapore.

Re: Real hardware stores in Signapore

Best place I have found is the Handyman Centre at Shaw Centre. He moved while they did some refurb and I am not sure if he is back in the old place or what. Maybe call first.

Handyman Centre #05-06/07 Shaw Centre, 1 Scotts Rd., 6737-7815

Re: short term internet contract

Depends if the property has a fibre optic point installed or not (which is around $200 IIRC). If it does, MyRepublic and ViewQwest both offer monthly contracts. If your usage is less than 12Gb per month, I believe M1 has a month-to-month data plan with Dongle. You could sign up for that and get a wi...

Re: General Election - Coming Soon - 11th September

[serious] As a - ahem - new citizen, I will of course to be obliged to vote. I can Bing for "Singapore election manifesto" and get results for SDA, WP, PAP, RP. But is there no centralised resource for finding all of them? A news or govt website hiding somewhere? And aside from Party manifestos, wha...

And EZ-Link auto top-up only works when you tap a bus/train panel...it doesn't trigger auto-top-up when used for purchases, IU etc.

Re: Windows 10 PC Free upgrade

I don't use MSWindows as my primary platform and I don't store there any sensitive personal information but most people do. With all the enthusiasm around the "free upgrade" to Windows 10, are you all aware what this new OS actually does? This is a pretty innocent article about the windows 10 priva...

Re: Bread (Organic, Wheat / Gluten Free, Dairy Free, Soy Free)

I got so fed up with crappy bread in Singapore I bought a bread machine. On lazy days I throw in a bread mix, on more creative days I play with flour combinations. You can get gluten-free bread mix in Cold Storage, the brand is Bob's Red Mill (you've probably seen the section with various flours, be...

I'm in the middle of planning a renovation and have a few links for home-making suppliers. Try a few of these. Yeah, usually they ask for payment on delivery. 7% on the whole value, not just the amount above $400
