It was a surprise to us at first as well. But we paid--and once we became PR it's FREE. Just one unknown benefit of being PR? :) If you read a lot it's worth it--or if you live or work near a library. They do carry some great stuff and you can go on-line to reserve and search for books, dvd's and cd...

Where are these low end condo's for $2-$3k? I looked at a three room HDB for $2k last week--two bedrooms and a hall. I also saw an amazing 5 room HDB for $3,200.

Not sure if they've received very many complaints about K-12 international schools, but it's a government body so at least the OP would feel like someone other than the headmaster would listen.

Good luck!

Poster was just originally asking for popular schools. The fact that the majority of us posting do not choose to send our children to those popular schools is perhaps a sign.

You can complain to the Council for Private Education (unless the school your kid attends is not accredited by them--some of the larger international schools escaped regulation): Council for Private Education 2 Bukit Merah Central #01-05 Singapore 159835 Tel: (65) 6499 0300 Fax: (65) 6275 1396 E-mai...

Very true, check out the IB website to check on the school's accreditation. I thought the only 100% IB school in Singapore was ISS. At least that's what their promo materials say.

Thanks, we sold our car about 6 months ago. We had driven to Deasure about a year ago and said the beach was so beautiful we needed to go back--and just never have. :( If we do make it via the ferry I'll let everone know how it goes. Thansk for the info on the LOtus, yes, that's where we plan to sta...

Desaru JAWS ferry?

Hi--planning to head up to Desaru, Malaysia for a day or so and I'd like to take the ferry. JAWS Ferry goes from Changi Ferry terminal, but has anyone actually taken it? Good recommendations for hotels? Some look really fantastic but I'd love to hear personal experiences to help plan since it'll be ...

It's a good question, and one I should know the answer to...but don't. Her class was larger last year (more cupcakes to bake) but they lost kids to the GEP and a Chinese feeder school (Nan Hua) down the road. I'd say 30 kids. Her register number is 32 but they've lost three kids in her class over th...

I'd second Kiasu Parents as an information source--but remember it is geared toward Singaporean parents and their mindset and long term goals can be at odd with what you're trying to achive for your child. My daughter's school has never had a PSLE top scorer or even one in the top 15 in their 65+ ye...

Wow movingtosingapore, do we live in the same building? One dog was so vicious in trying to reach my daughter it tore the skin off it's owners hand. My daughter is now terrified of dogs--it didn't help that my husband was bitten by a dog that came out of the elevator--not on a leash--and jumped up o...

I found the shuttle I now use by jumping on it when I read where it was going. The riders let me stay...and I pay $60 for a gauranteed seat. Follow the other folks who take a shuttle near you and ask where it goes--it's a huge time saver in the morning!

We got our 5 foot tree at Giant 4 years ago and it looks just like it did then. :) Giant has a few styles and good prices on ornaments too.

Not sure if Ikea does plastic--know they do real trees.

Good one MHB--the IB and US curriculum are usually very different systems! I'd second SMS' reply--it'll require you visiting and placing deposits at a few schools so close to the end of term for winter break.

But we wish you all the best of luck--have a look at SMS's list--it's very comprehensive.

There are some amazing schools doing some really inventive and creative teaching here. Wow--that was really crushy, but true. Top student this year was from Rulang Primary School. Raffles Girls Primary, St. Hilda's Primary, Anglo-Chinese, Kong Hwa School were all top producers. Three of these I'd ne...
