Even the women's toilets are disgusting in many European places so I've been told while there. What? Have you seen the toilets or just been told they're gross. I spent a month in Germany this summer and even the remote toilet on a hiking path was cleaner than the Lucky Plaza toilets just after the "...

I do think it's getting better with the next generation: I was in the Vivocity women's restroom with the "floating" sinks and a Chinese mom took her son's pants down and allowed him to pee in the sink. It took about 3 seconds and someone in rapid Mandarin said something that made her stop--but grant...

Sorry, my bad--the new database hasn't been launched yet. TNP (p4) reported that drug addicts in the Chai Chee area could be injecting themselves with Dormicum, a benzodiazepine. TNP reporters found a used syringe in the area during a visit on Friday. Dormicum is sold for between 70 cents and $2 per...

Worst was when my Singaporean Chinese boss made me pack up the leftovers at a big event we hosted at the American Chamber. Then we served it to the students the next day as a "surprise". It was a HUGE amount of food and it would have all been wasted. But it did make me feel queezy, then I remembered...

I was absolutely stunned the other day when an older white lady used her paper to knock some Chinese young guy on the head to get him to give up his "reserved" seat on the mrt for a much older singaporean lady. The Chinese guy did give up his seat--and the older lady took it--no-one said a word. Lik...

That's the Singapore bubble x9200. It's alive and well in all parts of Asia where the wealthy self-segregate. I assume it's like that all over the world now.

You're out of luck or hitch a taxi ride to Johor. Seriously. This was the suggestion when my sister didn't bring her nasal decongestant stuff and the clarinase didn't work. :)

Oh, good one SMS. I do think I'm worth knowing. :D I have some expat friends who lived in an HDB for five years before moving to a condo--they still count their HDB neighbors as their closest friends. It's tough since for us it's a logical arrangement, but I know for others living in an HDB would be...

You'll need to see a doctor--and the rules for prescribing such meds have very recently gotten a bit more difficult. All docs must input the NRIC/name and the dosage into a nation wide database. To stop patients from doctor hopping and getting more than they realistically need. My neighborhood doc j...

It's been 5 years for us in an HDB, and I'm certainly still in the honeymoon phase I guess. I feel more at home and part of a community than I have anywhere else I've lived. But we've done our part, attending multi-racial block parties, saying hello! to neighbors, and my daughter attends a local sch...

We're really happy in our HDB apartment. But I find the fact that folks can get a condo for such a low price amazing--granted we're only looking at HDB's so I know that in our area and the environs you can't touch anything for less than $1600 for a three room (two bedroom) and that would be a GREAT ...

You can buy them at the pharmacies--NUH for sure has them behind the counter. I bought bed and pillow covers.

Um, thanks for the unsolicited advice. I've been here 5 years and the HDB market is red hot--as is the condo market. I don't think I'd like to see a condo going for $2k--if this is actually what it's renting for and not just the seller giving "face" to each other.
