Do you rent a room in an HDB? Our HDB rent is $1700 for a three room (2 bedroom). Just wondering how you make it on $2500--unless you're local and live with your parents and have no rent or transport costs.

I'd love to hear how you do it!

+1 I loved your reply! My daughter gave me the exemption form (Form 2 MOE). It's pretty standard--with a very small section for your "reason" for wanting the exemption. But there is a huge section (2 pages) to fill out if your child has a learning disability and you want an exemption. I'm working on...

You're right martyr mum--if we had a son versus a daughter, I'm not sure we would have made the PR choice for him either. As for mother tongue, her new Mandarin teacher took her aside on Monday with a Phillipina classmate and asked them both to have their parents apply for an exemption. :) So, I'm a...

It's worth a shot trying to get documentation in France. I know of a couple here who got such documentation from France--mix was China and France. They got it while living here--and never having lived in France together.

Good luck!

Hi, I'm waving back! :) I think you're going into this process in the right mind-set. We didn't enroll our daughter into a top school, but a neighborhood school and couldn't be happier! You do have some time to "worry", but I think with the expanding schools they will be mitigating some of the crush...

Hi Segue, Not sure how long you've been in SG, but we've been here over 5 years. I live in an HDB and take the bus and MRT to work everyday (around $4 per day). I am very, very familiar with wet markets and NTUC. My per month cost of gas and maintenance in the US for my car was about $100USD--I live...

What is strange is that while Singapore is so much more expensive than my own country (USA) I can actually save more in Singapore with a similar income. The reason? Less stuff. The price of cars is so crazy, I do without one. With the excellent transport here, this alone is huge savings for me. Bec...

Hi Viviane, Yes, local schools are available to foreigners' on work permits--their kids would be on dependent pass. Have a look through this Forum--the search function works really well--and see if you can find answers more directly related to your needs. I believe I answered your questions on anoth...

Primary school is $4,272 per year for non-ASEAN international students, sorry, I assumed you were from around here, in which case you'd pay $2,952. I don't think this is cheap, and just another reason I'm so glad we're PR's--my $51 per month is looking cheap now! Granted, you also don't have to pay...

Most SG "kids" have no idea who Marley is, they wear it because they think it's "cool" and have seen celebrities in the same kind of shirt. I saw a Che Guevera (sp?) shirt on sale at Clementi Mall with Che in a Santa hat. Really? I'd NEVER encourage anyoe to wear a shirt like that--I told an SG stud...

You can have a look at them at any Popular bookstore. All Popular stores carry textbooks. You might want to look at the authors and see if any have written or advised on kindergarten or preschool texts--and get those for your little person. I honestly never thought about the Library. It's worth aski...

Hi Vivianel! Yes, it's possible to live close to one school and go to another. Once your child takes the MOE exam and passes (assuming they're NOT a primary one new entrant), then you are assigned a school. Theoretically you could live in Clementi and be assigned a school acros the island in Tampine...

Sorry, I guess the sarcasm was too much for my quip about Tampines. Sheesh people. Just celebrated my 5 year anniversary on the board, fun to see what still riles folks.

For the $1.9k mark you're looking at HDB I assume? That's about the range in Clementi for a 2 bedroom further out from the MRT. But they go VERY fast since you can fit 6 people comfortably, urrr--rather comfortably I guess.
