Re: Greater Southern Waterfront (GSW)

You've still got 2 years before the lease runs out on the golf course so get in and out before Dec'21!
Seriously though, what other alternative areas are you looking at?

Re: Can i work outside SG while i'm on Dependent Pass?

You don't need to inform MOMs.
My wife spoke with MOMs as the company she worked for have presence here in Singapore and she wanted to be totally clear about the situation, which MOMs re-assured her it was fine as she was working only with European clients.

Re: Can i work outside SG while i'm on Dependent Pass?

You can as long as you're not working with any Singaporean clients or colleagues. Essentially it must be work non-Singapore related. My wife when we first came here, worked as you proposed. This was clarified with MOMs. You cannot even go to the the companies office if they have one in Singapore and...

Re: Should PMD be banned?

I personally don't think PMDs should be banned. They need to be regulated stronger. e.g. max speed limit, weight, size etc. which the government are doing, but I guess it's a tricky task to enforce. 3rd party insurance and some form of competency test should be standard I think. PMDs are supposed to...

Re: What did you guys bring when relocating? - 2019

It'll depends on person to person.
I shipped most of my furniture as I have some nice pieces (especially artwork) and to buy it all again here would be a significant cost.
Moving is stress minimal if you get a full service provider.

Is it easy to navigate with Netflix?
It's OK. Not really different to any other streaming service such as spotify/apple music etc...
If you've got google TV you can use voice to control which is cool especially if you know what you want to watch. No need to faff around with the interface.

Re: Starhub v. Netflix

Netflix there's always something decent to find to watch and the fact that it's much cheaper too. Get Amazon Prime too and you'll never need to watch broadcast TV again.
I have both and starhub, but will ditch starhub when my contract expires.

Re: Should I bring my UK King mattress with me?

When I say kitchenware, I mean crockery and a few items such as our coffee machine and rice cooker – things we would use regardless. The company is shipping what we need so there aren't costs associated, which is why it makes sense to bring this stuff over rather than buy it new. If the mattress. G...

Re: Should I bring my UK King mattress with me?

If you're willing to ship your mattress and kitchenware, I would also ship the rest of the furniture you require e.g. sofa, dining table, chairs, TV and get a partially furnished condo. It'll be cheaper to rent and easier to find a condo as most are partially furnished e.g. white goods included. Cos...

Re: Not sure why I'm getting so many job rejections

Thanks WJ, you made some good points. Any tips about the best way to network with people here? What lines of communication/platforms work best here? Do you belong to any social, sports or expat clubs here? That's a sure fire way of meeting people who could help with putting you in touch or introduc...

Re: Not sure why I'm getting so many job rejections

I'm here in the country under DP but have been told that I have "privilege to work in Singapore" and like SMS mentioned "employer can apply for a Letter of Consent" for me to work in Singapore. I'm starting to strongly suspect this is the problem. A HR department or recruiter is getting my CV, seei...

Prepaid and postpaid mobile subscribers can make use of this solution to retain their original phone numbers. However, the service is only applicable for prepaid to prepaid and postpaid to postpaid mobile subscribers only. You can port your mobile from prepaid to postpaid. Both my wife and I have d...

Re: Getting research job in public sector

What is the possibility of her getting a job in Singapore such as the universities? She is an African-American, does this lower her chance of getting a decent job here? I see that most foreign research fellows are either Asian-American or Chinese. Really depends on her field. I've got a friend who'...

If you just hate your job, just change job.
Hating your job isn't IMO a reason to consider retirement especially at your age.

Re: Repatriation cost: only for foreign worker or his family too?

"at the end of employment" I think the interpretation of this is the key. Were you on a fixed term contract that has now ended? I would then expect this repatriation stipulation is relative. If you're on a permanent contract I wouldn't think it would be applicable as either, you've resigned, so as i...
