With regards to the working Visa in the US, the H1B allows Singaporeans to work 1.5 years in the U.S and renew for another 1.5 years (total of 3). After which you have to go back as the visa can't be extended beyond that (the H1B has a 6 year limit). True, but once you're in, your employer can then...

I have Singaporeans in my team that are split into two groups. The ones that have always been living in Singapore and the ones that have either studied abroad or have spent parts of their career working abroad. There is a distinct difference in their mentality. If I had to hire someone today and tw...

It's not a new book, its second edition is from 2008.

Anyway it's on the Kindle store for around $10USD.

Just one point to add: since I don't have a company stamp yet, I had written N/A on the relevant space on the application form. 2 days after I posted my application, MOM called me to tell me they needed a company stamp. When I explained I didn't have one yet, they asked me to provide a signed state...

Also got my SP LOC approved recently using the guidelines in this thread. Thanks everyone. One minor concern, upon issuance of the LOC I was asked to sign a declaration attesting to my salary and giving MOM permission to verify it. The form basically seemed like boilerplate. I know the salary stated...

There's some decent coffee here but you're better off buying a burr grinder at your electronics shop of choice and an Aeropress and/or pourover on Amazon. With good beans and a bit of practice you can make coffee just as good as the star baristas for $0.50-1 a cup (depending on beans) instead of $8....

Geez you guys like throwing bullshit around like you work for Janes but it's 100% wrong. I'm not sure you you all actually fancy yourselves some kind of actual experts on this or what (Squirrel seems to fancy himself an expert on everything. and is usually wrong, so it's expected from him). The US ...

I was in DC on 9/11 and these types of rumors were commonplace for the 2-3 years afterwards. They were all 100% BS fearmongering.

- Is Tanjong Pagar too urban to be a good place to live? It seems like compared to Robertson Quay and Tiong Bahru it has the best options in terms of nice, new but affordable condos. I like the idea of being able to walk to work but also want to feel like I'm in a neighborhood, preferably with othe...

I can almost guarantee that it's going to ramped up well before 2014. Just like the schedule for increases in the S pass levies. They were not supposed to increase until this past January, but wham! 1 Sept an increase at short notice followed by another on 1 January. You are only kidding yourself i...

For those of you who know SF at all, my favorite neighborhoods are North Beach, Russian Hill, Marina- given this are there are any other neighborhoods in Singapore that you think I should look into? There is an area just east of Tiong Bahru called Tanjong Pagar. This area, and a bit of the surround...

Question on neighborhoods- another one I've heard some good things about is Tiong Bahru. What do you think of that neighborhood for a mid-20's american expat? Tiong Bahru is great. It has one of the best hawker centres and several hipster cafes for your coffee and brunch needs. Lots of good deals o...

Odds are the long run plan is to tighten up for a couple years at the expense of economic growth and FDI, then once people start complaining about the economy doing poorly they can say "well we tried doing what you asked but it didn't work out so well." As a bonus they can get rid of people who prob...

Somewhere back in this thread there was mention of scenes being cut from movies. That got me thinking about services like NetFlix. Are there movies on NetFlix that one could not access due to contents/scenes deemed to be unfit for SIN audience? Or are services like NetFlix immune? No netflix so no ...
