Re: Teenage Son Considering PR

1. You can't defer NS for university studies except in exceptional cases or on a scholarship for medicine. 2. I agree PR and NS is a good idea if he wants to engage with Singapore. 3. The default is that they finish their education (when the path ends... wherever) and then no longer get student pas...

Re: Teenage Son Considering PR

By not including my sons in the PR application, I gamed the system? I specifically indicated in my application that they will decide on their own -- which is what they (or at least my eldest son) is doing now. So no meritocracy then if he aced his A levels -- he won't get any university place? Whet...

Teenage Son Considering PR

My family has been in Singapore for more than 9 years -- my wife and myself are PR's while my sons are foreigners on student passes. Yes, we applied just for ourselves and indicated in our application that our sons will decide for themselves (although we all know that PR approvals were easier back i...

Most locals don't use their balconys. Except for laundry poles and storage. Locals mostly don't use gas fired BBQ pits, either. I don't think a balcony is a good place for a child to play... find something ground floor. I have a gas fired BBQ in my balcony along a small table with 2 outdoor chairs ...

Consider the condos near or around the Tanah Merah MRT. I see lots of shuttle buses going to the CBP -- whether these are provided by the employers or open to public I'm not sure. If you want more private space, check out Summer Gardens -- terraced houses that may fit your budget.

Hello folks, My atmost's desire is to settle in singapore, that's the reason i have been here for 8+ years and persistantly appy for my wife's PR. I am paying rent for 8+ years and must continue paying for next 4-5 years (even my wife's PR gets approved now), so should not think about other options...

Interesting. I had never tracked how much I have spent on rent so far. I just calculated.I have already spent about 75k on rent in the last 4 years. It would have been even higher had there not been brief periods(12 months) when my wife was in India for our child birth etc and I had rented a common...

Been a PR for a little over 5 years and saved much less that what you have right now when we took the plunge and bought a property late last year (condo in the east, almost 2000 sq ft above $1.5M). Been wasting $4,000-4,500/month on rent over that period on 2 different condos and we decided enough i...

We have the Ariston gas hob with hotplate and no issues so far, we're very satisfied with it. The reason we bought this combo hob is due to the fact that our condo gas supply is not piped in. If we run out of gas then we can use the hotplate to continue cooking while the gas tank is being delivered.

Re: schools and proximity to MRT

Also, locals here look at rankings by popularity. I had coworkers tell me their child had went X school but they have been trying to get to A school so they bought a condo near that Y school. When I asked why, what was wrong with the old school, they merely said it wasn't top ranked. I just keep he...

skipper thinks that the neighbourhood schools cannot produce top level students. Unfortunately, the locals cannot shy away from them as they are hamstrung by where they live so if they live outside the 1 km radius, then they are also subjected to balloting for the remaining places. Fortunately, mos...

I don't think you can really just walk less than 400 m to the bus stop. Then again, if you can save $1K to rent a landed property, just buy or lease a car. Too hot ?:???: I dare to say that it is true why most the locals shy away from neighborhood schools -- while education ministry says that the c...

How much interest do you get on the amount over $25k? Either way, there has to be easier ways to get a better return on that much cash just sitting around :) Agree the interest isnt much, Its about 39$ per month. But then I am not even looking at the interest, I was just looking at the 200$ cash ba...

Thanks very much gothere is brilliant. Can someone tell me how overinflated ( if at all ) retnal websites are. I have lived in the East Coast for almost 5 years -- D16 then D15 and will finally settle in D16 (so I'm familiar with the area you're looking at). Terraced/landed houses are typically mor...
