Re: UBS salary

What kind of roles do you hire for, Brian? Do you have any experience hiring for data science / machine learning / advanced analytics? Do you think there are reasonable chances of making 350k+ with my background? Not a chance. Even though some of your skills are in demand, there are actually quite ...

Re: Relocating to Singapore from US - need advice!

I always suggest joining a team of a sport you are interested in - you don't even need to play, it gives access to a large group of like minded individuals, some who you will most likely get along with and a group with regular events organised.

Re: 24 year old African American Female looking to meet people!!

Im really curious why you put African American / Black American?

People here are generally more easy going, but interested in why you thought to mention it.

Re: Renting from overseas

I would say all challenges can be overcome, and as long as he has a legal right to live and rent here (a pass at minimum LTVP) then all obstacle can be sorted. The main question is why would you want to? Spending a few weeks in an AirBnB looking for a place that suits your needs, where the location ...

Re: Expat neighbourhood lowdown..

So, my husband and i will be moving to Singapore in September, and obviously we are looking for a home. I don't have all the details for your form but essentially we have up to 7000, we are late 40's early 50s, no kids at school, we have a car, and most importantly two whippets. We live in the coun...

Re: Early stages - tax question

Tax is cheaper, but School fees are a killer, rent is high and cars are prohibitively expensive. Try to get the company to pay as many of these as you can, but be aware most of us here have none of these things paid for.

Re: Notice period increased from 1 -> 2 months in promotion letter

I had a previous company unilaterally change the Notice Period and when I was on the way out I asked them to show me where I counter signed. BUT ... yours is a different case. I am not a lawyer, but I would expect if you accepted one half of the offer (the promotion and I assume a raise) then you al...

Re: Children on DP in local school and parents EP cancelled.

My friend lost her job last Jan, she was on EP and her daughter was studying in an IS under SP. Apparently she was able to get an LTVP under her daughter's SP. Fortunately, she just found a job a few weeks back. Can't imagine though the depression she went through, as she was also worried about her...

Re: What to do during work holiday

first , I know nothing about the Work Holiday pass but ... If you are on an EP, DP, PEP, LTVP, FDW, SPass, PR or Citizen you need to notify change of address. While I have no idea about the Working Holiday pass, it would be no different from everyone else who works in Singapore. If you are an EP, PE...

Re: Toilet seats almost always wet!

Im not sure if Strong Eagle is taking the piss (sorry, couldnt resist :-" ) but I find that in the mens toilets the reason the toilets are wet is because guys pee in the cubicles without lifting the seat first. Personally I think its because their package is so small they are ashamed to use the...

Re: Help for possible Options for moving there - early stages, Visas etc

I am not an expert in this, but the skills you have are valued in Australia but are not valued here. Cabinet makers and mechanics are generally either Malay or older Singaporeans who dont get paid much. While money may not be important to you, it is to the Government - why should they give a pass to...
