Re: Are we at risk of breaking money? (Cash top-up at MRT passenger service centres to be phased out by March )

I think you are overreaching. 1. The article states cards can still be topped up with cash, just at the machine and not the counter although I agree that old people may need help and it is a impediment for them. 2. The Fiat currency is backed by the government whether in "paper/plastic", e...

Re: When should I inform my supervisor of my intention to resign?

Both 2a and 2b options are good. That way the management has the ability to direct 100% of the bonus you would have received to the other staff who are staying, thus making them happier. Who cares if you get no bonus, you are leaving anyway. My original plan was to inform my supervisors of my intent...

What happened to all the curry puff sellers at the MRT. I only just realised I haven't seen one in years.

Re: Removal of not needed TV in the rented place

That sucks, but you are mostly out of luck as thats how it tends to work here. I moved into a fully furnished place (they even counted the cheap plastic bowls and the mugs that were not even a set). As I have my own kitchen and living appliances, I had to store then which eats up over half my storag...

Re: Employment Pass Renewals - 2018

Given I am well above the $6000 limit for the new EP with DP attached, is there any benefit applying this year rather than next?

My current PEP expires in February. I was going to apply in early Jan.

Thanks.

Re: EP Cancellation and Job Search. Logistics?

Here I'd thought we'd heard most everything. But, once again, this is a new one. Don't have a clue, truth be known. Maybe somebody else has been there. Hey Ref, you around? Don't remember if you had a FDW on not. With your past two years, did this come up? No, neither the ex nor I have ever had a F...

Re: Average salaries in Singapore

Hello, I'm new to Singapore and new to this forum. It's a nice city. A little warm but I'll get used to it. My dad got a job here and my family relocated from Canberra. School is starting next Feb for me. In the meantime, I'm thinking of working part time and getting to know the culture here a litt...

Re: State of rental market Q4 2017, plus suggestions!

If you find a condo you like and want to know the going rate, use the URA page https://www.ura.gov.sg/realEstateIIWeb/resiRental/submitSort.action Looking at the condo I live in the rent I negotiated in January is good compared to the last few months so who knows what will happen next. I don't think...

Re: EP Cancellation and Job Search. Logistics?

Thanks TheRef that's great advice. My wife is also employed under an LOC off of my EP. She is inquiring with her company if she can transfer to an SPass and have us as her dependents. If they come back with a no I will try what you have suggested above. Thanks again. There is nothing to lose from a...

Re: EP Cancellation and Job Search. Logistics?

First up get your children a student pass each and your wife a "study momma" pass - that will hold off any issues with the school and they will have no issue getting the student pass. Tell the landlord you may need to invoke the diplomatic clause but you are hoping to start a new role befo...

Re: An Interesting Take on Singapore Growth

The ICT industry has been shrinking due to the MOM forcing out a particular demographic that seems to fill most ICT jobs here. Body shop employee do not get passes anymore and Banks are struggling to get some EPs approved. There are something like 400 FinTech Companies in Singapore and the MAS has c...

Re: New Criteria for PEPs w.e.f. 1/12/2012

I've just moved back to EP after 5 years on PEP. I applied in July but, due to an admin error at their end, started 1 Nov. I think it was 1 Dec the change came in. Did you have any trouble moving back or was it just seamless? I always thought the push was to move people on a PEP to PR but as I have...
