Re: Govt has more talk on HDB to $0 at end of lease

They are trying to prevent some locals from committing suicide by buying resale flats with short balance of leases left hoping for SERS. Since 1995 only about 4% have been designated as being available or marked for SERS. That is a very small percentage and the odds are probably less than one of th...

Re: Sim Lim Square - Good, bad and ugly - READ BEFORE VISITING

If you must go to SLS to shop, look on the floor. Star retailers have stickers on the floor at their store front. Avoid others like a plague. Unscrupulous stores cheat in many ways. My personal experience. Negotiated price on computer repair. After they repaired, refuse to honor the agreed price and...

Re: Scam - apartment deposit

Hi, I recently left Singapore and I'm currently going through a battle with a property agent for getting my deposit back. I stayed in the apartment for 3 years; I completed a 2-year contract + reniewed the contract with an expat clause which I could exit the contract after 6 months from the comenci...

Re: tenants able to park car in Condo?

In Australia most strata titles define the car park situation. In Singapore I don't believe they commonly do. So actually the MC has control of the car park, not the LL. That's where the issue is arising I think. A landlord does not own or have assigned slots many times. Very true. I do know of a n...

Re: west coast condos...the far away ones

We will be moving to Singapore in October and for the last few weeks I have been living in . and memorizing MRT map. The husband will work near Keppel (Maple Tree) and we won't have a car. We are a couple, mid-forties, no kids but with a stupid beloved cat. We love to socialize, go to the markets, ...

Re: Did you make photo books for your family? Please advise!

Hey All! As my first child has just been born, I've started thinking more about family, and have come to the realization that my parents have become grandparents and they are getting old. I want to start a little Family Book for my young one to read and see when he grows up. My dad especially isn't...

Re: Middle age couple looking for housing advice

NUHS is on the Yellow line. The closest would be Dover Parkview & Heritage View condos near the Buena Vista MRT. Although not very new(I think 1997-2000 vintage), they are both very nice full facility condos with sizeable expat population due to nearby educational institutions. Definetely check tho...

Re: what type of pass can apply for 3 years old toddlers

A three year old is going to "study" in Singapore? Especially in Singapore! I know a child half that age who has started playing with flash cards. :o A child ought to be playing. I know a child, barely 2 years old, whose favorite toys is A,B,C. At that tender age, he can spell something like 30 wor...

Re: Looking for rent $1500, 30 minutes from expo

Thanks for those tips. Now I wonder, often times it says the price is negotiable. I take it that means the price shown is rather high. How much can I expect to reduce that price? If for example the asking price is 2000, what would be a realistic bid? Can I get it down to 1600 or is that unrealistic...

Re: Looking for rent $1500, 30 minutes from expo

Hi I'm having difficulties finding a suitable place. I'm looking for a small apartment, I don't care about the size. It just needs a kitchen and I would like a pool. And it needs to be reasonably close to the Singapore Expo, 30 minutes by public transport would be ideal, 45 minutes max. My budget i...

Re: House Prices could drop by a Quarter?

Don't know about the Swiss, but the government in Germany actively regulate housing rent, imposing rental cap. As a result, housing price has not shot through the roof, unlike UK. This makes it more attractive to rent, does it not? http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/7e682660-1019-11e5-bd70-00144feabdc0.html...

Re: House Prices could drop by a Quarter?

If you have got the money, nobody should be telling you how to spend it. But there is something quite wrong when skyrocketing property value ends up pricing the locals out of a roof over their heads. Can't find the link but Singaporeans have one of the highest debt ratio in the world. And it is not...

Re: Salary 8.5K - how much should I pay for rent?

Hi all, Since I've been getting good tips and suggestions from here. I thought I would ask for some opinions about how much rent should I pay. I worked for international company and got paid around $8.5K per month. I'm looking for 1 bedroom flat here but not quite sure how much to spend. Seems like...

Re: Whats there to do/see in Batam

A word of advice. Be silent when queueing at Batam immigration. The officers there are doing serious work and do not like to be disturbed. Flout the rule and you can be refused entry. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/travel_news/article-2728844/Keep-quiet-ll-kicked-country-Ferry-terminal-s-noisy-vi...
