Thanks for the advice so far, my parents are also foreigners and none of them are Singaporeans so I have thought of considering this path or even return back to my country to study. I assumed you're heading back to serve the Taiwan army then. Yes? You probably moved to Singapore taking on PR was to...

Re: To overseas Singaporeans sending their kids to SG for NS
We are a Singaporean family expecting to be staying overseas during the next few years. We are worried about our son adapting to NS/Singapore when he is enlisted 10 years later. Would you mind sharing your experiences - especially if you have kids who have been overseas many years (i.e. speak with ...

888max, Sorry to have removed my original post but I wasn't happy about something I wrote. However part of Strong Eagle's and jpatokal's post may hold the answer; http://www.singaporeexpats.com/forum/ftopic50072.html Seems as I was suggesting, he should use his Singaporean passport and simply keep ...

That is good to hear. I am in Christchurch now helping my mates here after the Christchurch earthquake. More like a war zone from the movies !! Very sad for the loss of lives. Yes. Very sad! Totally understand that feeling. Taiwan had a major one a few years back and the whole mountain shifted with...

Probably but come to think of it MOST DEFINITELY. I read in OZ papers years back , If I recalled, family of four renounced and migrated to OZ in the 80s. Children like it very much but Dad cannot adapt to the life in OZ after death of wife. Dad was high connected person in SG. Applied for PR, SG ci...

It is easier said than done. Over the years, no one, I mean no one that has given up citizenship ever gotten it back. CPF monies plus interest is only a small part of the problem . Even if you jump over hoops, I doubt you will ever get it back. Worse if you are the minority race esp Malay. It is a ...

Re: US spouse visa
Hello, I'm a US citizen living in Singapore on a work permit. My wife, a Chinese citizen and a Singapore PR, is planning to apply for a spouse visa so we can both move to the US. We would like to hear from others who have gone through a similar experience. How long did the process take (the website...

Tau Beta, You forget one important aspect! Your are AMERICAN FIRST. That is the Proper Noun, your "Asianess" is only a descriptive adjective. It's different here in Singapore where they still don't have a "country" but a "company" so the staff here are Singaporean Chinese, Singaporean Indians, Sing...

it would be reminiscent of America in 1966 with thousands of kids running away to Canada. What's the reasons for their escape to Canada? There are people out there who do not believe in the use of violence as a mean for conflict resolution. And then there are those who think there are other ways to...

SMS, MS and Tua Beta, you guys jump the gun on this kid. Three grown wise men. I thought it is usually the women who let their emotions get ahead of themselves. I have met several Indonesians, both Malay and Chinese and found them pleasant to get along. Or maybe I don't know them well enough to rea...

sigh... that outburst wasn't unprovoked, you know that. I was trying to keep things civil and not offend anyone, but you people were openly attacking me. You got on my nerves and I ended up saying things I dont mean. I take the things I said in the post back and apologise. Many of my guy friends ha...
