Re: Thoughts on 377a repeal
Religion is not bad. People are bad. My religion takes it a step further, identifying the pope as the antichrist (might sound radical, but there is sound rationale behind it). For those looking at religion as outsider, you only see the <1% of what religion is all about from headline grabbing storie...

Howdy fellas, nice to see you abouts. Yep still here too, head down battling on. Not as immortal as SMS's Methuselah (969 years), unless the reference is to the 6L bottle of wine rather than the biblical figure.

Re: Cargo/passenger boat service between Singapore & Hong Kong in 1980
There certainly would have been cargo ships, and some of them might have have taken a small number of passengers. Some shipping lines/routes still offer such today, though IIRC I've only ever met one person who made such a journey. See for example: https://www.cargoshipvoyages.com/WhatToExpect/ Re: ...

Re: airplane seating etiquette
I sense a slight shift in style on the forum, there seems to be more abrasiveness than there used to be, and some people are far quicker to rise into conflict than they used to be. Who knows why and that's just my impression. I have pondered why; might it be as a result of the anti-FT purges, or oth...

His son holds a British passport from birth and part of the obligation to retain the passport was for him to return to the UK before the age of 18. Just for the record, I've never heard of a Brit in such circumstances having their passport cancelled. Furthermore Brits are entitled to have dual citi...

I know you're kidding Raj but it has struck me how of late the forum seems to have picked up the style of that other place aka 'The Angry Board'.

Re: South China Sea ruling .....
There was a world-wide trade in Opium and later heroine. Scroll about halfway down this page for a pic of a retail bottle of Bayer brand Heroine. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opium#Regulation_in_Britain_and_the_United_States The US didn't ban opium until 1905*. I can't see when it was banned in the...

Re: recommended optician
My suggestion for an optician's shop is Foresight in the Toa Payoh hub [just about opposite Burger King]. I bought decent looking but unbranded reading specs for about $100. That included an eye-test, lens cutting, adjustment, and re-testing the final result. I've also had them later do a tune-up, r...

The Euro/EU
The subject has been discussed within the BREXIT topic and the 'Currency moves' topic, I thought it might be better to start another topic for the EU's ongoing challenges, esp. since they're probably going to run for the foreseeable...
