Re: Couple that ran off with $32m

The general Internet view is that they were donned in by a Thai contact whom they'd spoken too. On the other hand, all it may take is a single login to a social media account including the ads tracing scripts and such. It requires some educated effort to stay under the radar. Same applies to cell c...

Re: PR abuse

While I don't disagree with anything you say about "permanent," to be fair the time and thinking under which some people here (in SG broadly) obtained PR was perhaps different from today? As I mentioned elsewhere, there may be a portion of 40-50 year olds that obtained PR decades ago and never had ...

Re: Neighbors renovation is driving me crazy

In my condo approval is needed and the notices pasted in a few location. If they run out of time, they get an extension. As much as I hate it there is probably no better way than do it longer hours in less days. This is also because of neighbors living within the same corridor - dust is everywhere a...

Re: Neighbors renovation is driving me crazy

Is there no sort of restriction against renovating for this long or for so many hours each time? I’d hate to be unneighborly but it’s truly a bit much. Surely there are some but I doubt they are practical to use. https://www.gov.sg/article/reporting-litter-and-pollution As long as the work is done ...

Re: Neighbors renovation is driving me crazy

I’ve held out on writing about this for a while because I thought it would stop, but it hasn’t. I’m not sure what exactly my neighbor is getting done to his house, but there has been drilling going on every day from eight in the morning till at least five or six in the evening. It’s nonstop and it ...

Re: Planning my move to Singapore

@Roadtosingapore, one more option of smooth commuting, is riding a motorcycle, so if you have some valid DL, you may consider it too. I have a UK driving license. What is the cost of maintaining a bike in Singapore? Parking etc. For the one I mentioned earlier, ca SGD500 for insurance and the taxes...

Re: Planning my move to Singapore

I may not have kids but just saying that if my parents and other people raised their kids without cars, my current colleague with a 3 yo also makes do without a car, it is pretty do-able to have kids in SG without a car. You value convenience, others value saving money. Of course. And family time. ...

Re: Driving into Malaysia

If there was no way to top up this card in Singapore (or use it as you mentioned), it would be probably the most idiotic thing to recommend it, but you never know.

The official TnG web pages point to the above link as of the solution/replacement for an expired TnG card holders while still in Singapore.

Re: Driving into Malaysia

Do they charge a lot for the card itself? I imagine they wouldn’t bother selling them if they couldn’t turn some sort of profit. Anything between SGD15 to over SGD60, so a lot. The NFC versions starts at around SGD30 with no value included. I just ordered one. Will report what kind of animal is it ...

Re: Planning my move to Singapore

Hey, x9200, you still riding that big scooter you used to have? 300 or larger cc? Nope. Scrapped a few years ago already. It started slowly to fall apart and there was no more new spare parts in Singapore. I switched to a regular motorcycle to properly handle my middle age crisis and now proudly ri...

How much was the PARF from your previous car? That's an opportunity cost people often ignore.
8-9k; earlier 12-13k.

Re: Planning my move to Singapore

..... Currently we are with a Honda Shuttle, installment ~770, Rd Tax ~700, insurance ~800, petrol prices rocketed recently and right now we pay something like 200-300 (daily commuting Hillview area <-> Orchard), parking ~200 . That's roughly it I believe. Main reasons for having a car: bringing th...
