Re: What does 'Plant based' for food mean?

IMHO, plant based doesn't necessarilly mean is meat free. E.g. plant based diet does not imply meat or dairy free diet, just that the diet is rich in plants. But for food it probably means: - something that is often animal based is here plant based (e.g. fat, proteins, dairy) - something that could ...

So 6 of them got inside to check if there is no more than 2 visitors. Makes sense.

Re: Everyday items to bring from the US to Singapore

Agreed, it's probably much more complex than simple job security and other such possible concerns of the gahment.

Re: Everyday items to bring from the US to Singapore

I have a theory that the gahmen actively discourages big box stores of every kind... IKEA excepted. The last thing close to a big box, Walmart like store in Singapore was Carrefour and both of their stores closed in 2012. I judge that the gahmen would rather have many small mom and pop stores, even...

Re: Renouncing PR to Avoid National Service

This: "you have unresolved issues with Mindef" is very weird. Has he tried to ask Mindef how to solve the issues? It beaurucratic speak for "We think you're an absconder from NS" but the issues are not resolvable because the fellow has missed his chance to do NS. Classic catch - 22 Yes, but what st...

Re: Watching a movie in the cinema

It's been probably 20 years since I've been in a movie theater here in SG. just wondering. Bring a big sack of gold. You'll get a shock when you see how much they charge for a movie ticket nowadays. Pricing is ridiculous. Upwards of $40, and thats not even including snacks or drinks. Per person? La...

Re: Everyday items to bring from the US to Singapore

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions! Neosporin is definitely something that I'll need to get, in addition to aspirin, Tums, and Hall's. I didn't realize that multivitamins are so much more expensive in Singapore, so I'll be sure to stock up on Centrium, and also to note the expiration dates. ...

Re: Does the government consider race when granting PR?

And by the way, I have a very unpopular opinion about what kind of foreigner gets away with not adapting or generally being a nuisance in a foreign country (by and large). It is the white person who can get away it. There's this thing called white privilege. There are plenty of white people making ...

Re: Does the government consider race when granting PR?

Agree, it's not carrying any heavy load but perhaps it contributes to the problem? That was my initial question. It really looked to me strange perhaps by the contrast it created to other non-Singapore nations sitting also at the table.

Smoulder, sp786, what's your take guys on the issue of self isolation of the Indian diaspora in Singapore? 10 or 15 years ago, what truly shocked me were some Indian colleagues living in Singapore for a couple of years and not being able to use chopsticks or openly refusing to try any other than In...

Re: Health insurance upon retirement for expats?

Again, why should I care what are these plans designed for if the plan is good for Singapore? It seems it is more important to you what the plan is called rather than what it can deliver. I use such plan for many years living in Singapore and found it superior also in terms of value for money to an...

Re: Health insurance upon retirement for expats?

Because you're asking above coverage in other countries outside Singapore? These international plans are designed for expats who travel frequently outside Singapore including on short term assignments, and who may change residence to another expat posting. Again, why should I care what are these pl...
