Re: Best exchange rate for moving large sums from SGD to USD?

As already mentioned, it is highly dangerous to carry more than the minimum required to facilitate your travel as US police simply confiscate anything they see as 'too much'. Their MO is to create a nightmare where you need to spend months and many trips to a courtroom to prove you are not a crimina...

Re: Best exchange rate for moving large sums from SGD to USD?

Can you let me know how that works in real life, ie: document the flow as I have difficulty understanding how you can get SGD from a Sg bank to USD in a US bank for 0.15% all-in, and with mention of negative carry if using a credit card? If you could show where fees and mark-ups show up and how you ...

Re: Best exchange rate for moving large sums from SGD to USD?

:-)

Hi SMS, all good - all fine! I keep meaning to swing down for a beer on one of your Eagle nights but either previous commitments or out-of-townishness jams the gears... Crappy excuse but it's the only one I have.

Cheers,

Re: Best exchange rate for moving large sums from SGD to USD?

Sorry I didn't know this was a contest. I was simply giving my uneducated best answer in response to the OP's query.

I'll defer to your experience.

Regards,

Re: Best exchange rate for moving large sums from SGD to USD?

To buy/sell bitcoin is almost identical to doing a stock transaction, except you will use 2 exchanges - one in Sg and one in the USA. Since there is no banking entity in the middle of the transaction, the fx spread is effectively nil. There is a bid/ask on each side as you enter and exit the blockch...

Re: Best exchange rate for moving large sums from SGD to USD?

Bitcoin is tailor-made for moving funds cross border with low fees and almost no FX spread. Also a little 'geeky'

Re: Any tip to get in shape with minimum effort?

Sorry to say but if you are 'lazy' then there is no way you will have the willpower to begin much less finish something like properly getting into shape. Life style modifications are not easy. Work-out has the word 'work' in it for a reason. There really are no easy ways, but there are very fulfilli...

Re: Diving in Singapore waters

I've done a couple of dives in Sg water and it wasn't great, but like fishing, there are no bad dives (knock on wood). Better than nothing to get wet, as you say. It's a bit more $'s but Pulau Sibu (Rimba or Sea Gypsy) about 2hrs drive away is significantly better vis. 5-10m depending on conditions....

Re: aretirement locations

Wife and I have been tossing around the thought on where to end up and decided to test-drive a few locations before making any final decision. I want sailing potential, she needs food and social ties. We are thinking Thailand (Phuket, Krabi, or Jomtien, K. Chang - depending on monsoon). Then there i...

Just trying to be helpful sir.

Re: transfer money from SG to HK on a monthly basis

I'm going to go outside the box, and I'm a remittance 'insider'... Use Bitcoin, which WILL put Western Union, Moneygram and their ilk out of business in the next few years. Use a reputable exchange in each country, and NEVER store your BTC at an exchange any longer than it takes to move them out! If...

The recent tv interview was very compelling.

Thanks, I'll take the time to read this. When he is pardoned by the next, or the next after that president, he may well be viewed as enough of a hero to actually run himself.

The guy is that impressive.
