Thanks guys. Will do, she is currently back and in the process of filling out a form that they will use to assess eligibility for deferment / exemption. Mostly the questions one can expect to be asked.
Will update as it unfolds. Currently at a glacial pace.

Re: MINDEF Contact
MS,
Thanks for that. She reached out to them via that avenue and they have been rather helpful.
The instructions they have given do seem at odds with much of what I've read here over the years though. But something to go on is better than nothing to go on.

Re: MINDEF Contact
Yes, many thanks. CMPB would be a better body to contact than Mindef proper.
I'll head over in person if an email doesn't suffice.

MINDEF Contact
Hi all, especially MS if he's still frequents this board. I have a relative who emigrated several years ago, and now they all have citizenship there. Her son is approaching the age of 13 and the time has come for them to commence the process of proper deferment and eventual renunciation of his Singa...

Re: REP expiry soon
That's true. Keep on forgetting that part about not leaving Singapore.
Guess she'll just have to not travel abroad till she manages to get some tax returns and CPF contributions in.
I guess that's the only real option.
Many thanks guys.

Re: REP expiry soon
Afraid the tax returns are zero.
She only came back 'permanently' two years ago and has no history of employment income here.

Re: Procedure for NS deferment and renunciation?
Thanks guys for your help. They're not trying to game the system or anything, just figuring out the procedure for handling it right should they decide that his interests are best served by him not serving NS in which case they will take the necessary steps. As for asking whether the decision can be ...

Re: Procedure for NS deferment and renunciation?
Oh, and is it possible to actually follow the correct protocol, do everything properly, and then decide later on that he actually wants to serve NS in order to remain a SC? Is this sort of U-turn entertained?
He does actually feel a bond to this country on account of his cousins here.

Re: Procedure for NS deferment and renunciation?
Thank you. He's on the high functioning end of the spectrum which makes Singapore (and even Oz) a difficult place for him. All he ever got here were the 'nasty child who obviously hasn't been caned enough' looks from strangers, or often, not even strangers. Thanks for the responses and the links so ...

Procedure for NS deferment and renunciation?
I have been a very long time reader of this forum, and understand that some of the posters here, especially MS have extensive knowledge of the above, so perhaps I could get some advice for my nephew. My nephew is a Singapore citizen by birth, and both his parents are still SCs. They moved to Austral...

Re: A home like none other
Many children of this country learn English from teachers who barely know English. There are some that can, and do teach it well, but of course there aren't many. The rest learn poor English that simply gets reinforced from every direction once outside of the classroom. So there were a group of not-...

Re: Smoking in the Toilet???
As an occasional smoker: In the example, it's perhaps someone dossing from work, who doesn't want to be seen hanging around (and not at work) smoking in a permitted smoking area. A smoker is a smoker. :) These people who smoke in toilets are simply exhibiting a complete inability to control themsel...

Re: singapore stocks and bonds for foreigners
If you must open an account to enjoy the 'superior' yields the Singapore market has to offer, others have already pointed out, simply call a few of them up, try the big banks as well for their securities departments and they'll tell you exactly what to do. Actually, currency movements may move in yo...
