I completely agree BBC Watcher. I'm still trying to convince my employer to do that.

Nope, I'm not Simon Mortlock. It's not even my surname - just a street I once lived on.

Re: Last Drawn Salary Debate. Yes or No.

No idea what you mean ecureilx. I work for a very small company, and I don't waste my time advertising positions just to collect data.

Re: Last Drawn Salary Debate. Yes or No.

Oh, and I don't ask salary as part of the application process. I only discuss it with candidates in phone interviews when I think they are qualified for the job. My managers always want to know what a candidate is asking, as they also have to work within their budgets.

Re: Last Drawn Salary Debate. Yes or No.

Perhaps I haven't explained myself clearly, but when I screen candidates, I conduct a phone interview and go over their background, and I can find fabulous, well qualified candidates. At this point, it helps to get a rough idea of their salary expectations. If my budget for a role is max $5k per mon...

Re: Last Drawn Salary Debate. Yes or No.

We just interviewed a terrific candidate, that has accepted our job offer, and her response to salary expectations was "What do you think I'm worth?" This kind of answer won't work for everyone, but we were already incredibly impressed, so worked out what we were happy to offer. As an HR p...

Strategic Management Courses in Singapore

I'm looking for recommendations on a Strategic Business Management course here in Singapore. I not looking for a course focused solely on strategic management of staff/coaching etc. What I want is something that focuses on thinking at a higher level about company performance, not just individual tac...

Re: Serviced apartment recommendations

We stayed at Fraser Residences (behind Paragon) when we first arrived. It was a really good place to stay. The apartments were Ok sized - nothing huge. Mostly it was in a great location and there was a patio area with all the facilities in one location (pool, playground, outdoor lounge area, cafe/br...

Re: UHT Milk Portions - where to buy

Yes X9200, those are exactly what I'm looking for. I found them from UK suppliers, and if I can find one with reasonable shipping, it might be the way to go. I'll look into German Market Place.

Judyp, thanks for the tip. I've sent enquiries to Angliss and Ben Foods.

Re: No employment contract will impact PR application?

It depends what kind of visit pass you have. If you are on a Dependents Pass (as the wife of an Employment Pass holder), your employer can apply for a Letter of Consent allowing you to work. If you have no EP, Letter of Consent or PR, you can't work. If you are working illegally (for cash), and you ...

Re: Expats not living the typical expat life?

I met lots of snobby expats when I first arrived. I could feel them looking down their nose at me with my tiny condo in Bishan, no car, and husband on local package. I just kept looking and after a while I met great people. I agree that the days of the flashy expat packages with house, car, club mem...

Re: UHT Milk Portions - where to buy

Thanks for the tip. These are UK sellers, but maybe shipping isn't too bad. Still hopeful I might find a Singapore supplier. All those hotels must get them from somewhere local!!

I should also add, just because one person thinks a helper is fantastic, doesn't mean they are the right person for you.

Re: How did you find a maid you're happy with?

I have heard good things about and agency called G&A Services. They only deal with transfer maids, so you are more likely to find someone who has experience with expat families. I found my helper through a singapore Facebook forum. There are always lots of listings from families who are leaving,...
