SMS--thanks for the ageing formula--more satisfactory than just counting backward from 50. By my (generous) self-evaluation, you and I are about the same age, so: cheers! --clarison

post-CNY

It worked out fine. We baked some little muffin-top-sized chocolate souffles (easy on the second attempt) and put 'em in one of those hexagonal brocade folding boxes. And I walked over to the nursery to see what looked good, came away with a matched pair of cute little red pineapples wrapped in gold...

man with a van

S.K.Y. 9 445 445 0: I took a chance on him off a craigslist notice. On the basis of one pickup/deliv of a dining suite, a great experience. Prompt, accommodating, quick to respond via sms, excellent price compared to others I phoned, good communication skills (a near-disaster for me on a previous de...

school fees

It will be interesting to see what happens to int'l school fees in the next term or two. With the exception of SAS and TTS and perhaps one or two others they are all for-profit ventures, and if the demand isn't there . . .

Again, for what it's worth: we applied to OFS in July for the August 11 start of this school year, and were swept right in. There was something in the ST last week about the gov't's willingness to support or perhaps just allow an increase in the number of international schools. Given the size of the...

OFS

We started our 9-yr-old at OFS 2 wks ago, and so far so good. A pre-K child's experience will be very different, obviously, but some things are worth noting. We like OFS's central location, and the friendliness and openness of its staff and teachers. All of the int'l schools are huge: SAS over 4000,...

cbavasi--We withdrew our interest in UWC on learning that it's in process of moving to Tampines, with a phased pullout that struck me as chaos waiting to happen (I have a lot of experience with private school construction.). Since we live west of center, near my wife's campus, we didn't want to subj...

safe landing

A post from Singapore from (formerly) artursson--so now you know the names of both my parents. We arrived here a week ago, and yesterday settled Artie into the Overseas Family School, which looks and feels like a very good choice, albeit one made in near blindness. A. likes it there right off, and d...
