Re: Tenant breaking contract - my options
Valley man, did the tenant declare that he is going to break the lease or did he request you? I am a subcontinental too and a tenant. I have rented a hdb continuously for 3 yearly renewals now and during last renewal I requested the owner for an option to break lease after 6 months, reason, my daug...

Re: Tenant breaking contract - my options
Thanks PNGMK. I will consider this option, if I am within the 10K loss limit.PNGMK wrote:Depending on your TA he should be liable for rent between departure and when you (or he) can get a new tenant in. This should be enforceable via the SCT. The security deposit should not be part of this equation.

Re: Tenant breaking contract - my options
My tenant(sad to say another sub-continental) is breaking the 2 year lease with 11 months remaining. He is not moving out of Singapore and is ready to forfeit his 2 month deposit. There has been no acrimony between us and the property is a brand new condo unit, so he can't complain of any defects/i...

Re: Tenant breaking contract - my options
With just one side of the story, it's a bit hard to give unbiased advise. One thing I can say, however, is that a brand new property isn't by definition without any flaws. He's not leaving Singapore, so it's not a work termination issue. What did he tell is his reason for bailing out? What I have h...

Re: Everyone I know is leaving or already left
How does everyone feel about Thailand as a retirement destination ? I love the beaches, food and nightlife and its close to Singapore. I have seen tons of senior expats in Phuket enjoying the golden years of their lives. Also, having lived in Cyprus for half a decade, I definetely have it on my rada...

Re: Career advice for PR's foreign spouse
You should try the 3 Indian schools. They have a high turnover of teachers and are always looking to hire new ones on DP. From what I have heard, the pay is not very good though.
Good Luck!

Re: Decision on Purchasing House
@OP: If you are looking for your own stay, you should buy where you can see yourself living for atleast the next 5-10 years. I was on the sidelines of buy/no-buy for the longest time, but then things were never all in place at the same time. So I took the plunge and I am quite happy for it. A house ...

Re: I drove for Uber last night so you tards could ask me questions
I think I am going to try this soon. Does Uber provide any training to onboard new drivers ? And do you have those "minimum number of hours" that you must be online, restrictions anymore ? I have used Uber extensively when my car was in the workshop, or when I go out for drinks. Drivers are nice and...

Re: west coast condos...the far away ones
Have you looked at The Interlace on Depot road. It will be only 2 bus stops from MBC. The area is very green and nice and you will also be 2 bus stops away from Anchorpoint mall/IKEA, in the other direction. Alexandra Central mall is also closeby..

Re: UK vote to leave the EU ['BREXIT'] - 23rd June
Have been following the Brexit discussions very closely. Also, the US presidential campaigns. I read an article somewhere about the parallels and how the "right wingers" are taking over. In all these debates and discussions what I find strange is how the so called "liberals" are themselves so pig-he...

Re: Middle age couple looking for housing advice
Well I have lived in one and socialised a lot in the other, but that was around 8/10 years back. I used to love it then. Never felt claustrophobic and the facilities were awesome. Dover had 4 tennis courts with two of them made of artificial turf and two hard cement surfaces. Then the Japanese bath,...

Re: Middle age couple looking for housing advice
NUHS is on the Yellow line. The closest would be Dover Parkview & Heritage View condos near the Buena Vista MRT. Although not very new(I think 1997-2000 vintage), they are both very nice full facility condos with sizeable expat population due to nearby educational institutions. Definetely check thos...

Re: Property market - your take
Thanks all for the responses. JR8 - thanks for the detailed response. I am crystal clear on my needs, budget and location and have specified that to the agents helping me out. Infact there are only 5/6 resale family condos that I am looking at, as this will be for my own stay. Don't wan't a new prop...

Property market - your take
I am looking to get a private property here and have been on the lookout for good deals. Property agents and those with vested interests have advised me to commit, showing me so called "value buys". However, I am not fully convinced that the market has bottomed out yet. On the other hand if MAS come...
