Coming in late on this one. Some interesting topics in this forum. There is more to a country than labor. Many factors achieve high standards of living. It's a balance of many things (govt', infrastructure, bureacracy, economy, social factors, culture, language, etc). I fail to see how unrestrained ...

I'm not even sure what exactly the topic is anymore, but... Integrating here is damn easy. You would have to be very anti-social not to. Safe, small, English-speaking (sort of, at least), etc. I mean, compare SG to Japan, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia. However, having said that, I know many expats (the...

That's my point. Foreign bosses aren't as connected with the local standards of face saving behaviour, so they can be more direct and local staff write it off to "aiyo, ang moh like that one". Just an observation from my experiences, yours may of course differ.

Are you of Chinese ethnicity?

If not, and if granted, you will be the first non-Chinese I've ever heard of that got LPR (out of 20 or so that I know in total).

If you are, then the advice above is good. That one company is the source, make sure you are dealing with them directly.

It would be nice to list down "the way things are in Singapore", but you really can't. Some of the above applies sometimes, but not all the time. Key points are: 1. Are you working in an "international" environment or a local one? This has NOTHING to do with the origin of the company. Some local com...

Your phone is gone. Forget it and get another one. Without the taxi number, it's useless. This happens about 500 times a day here. You will now get the full pleasure out of reading the weekly stories in the ST about the taxi driver who found a lost mobile in their cab, tracked the owner down using D...

Mercs that pick you up on street hire or come when a regular cab is called are routine. They cost the same as a regular cab. So, consider yourself lucky when that happens, it's a "limo" ride for free. You should, of course, be aware of this and not pay any extra. I've never had them try to get any e...

Two crimes involving weapons being fired (the other was the guy who shot and missed th security guard a couple weeks ago) in such a short period of time, one of them an execution style murder, is pretty exceptional here. It's an execution style murder because it wasn't a crime of passion or a gunfig...

Arrived late, or early as the case may be. 4am or so I guess. Couldn't find anywhere to get a drink. Lots of music. Foam party (90% male) was going on. Funny to watch all the guys circle around the few girls inside. If you are into big outdoor parties, you would probably like it. Leaving Sentosa dru...

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams ... glitter in the dark near Tannhauser Gate. All those ... moments will be lost ... in time, like tears ... in rain. Time ... to die." Roy Blatty (Rutger Hauer) / Bladerunner

"Good for you" is one thing, it can be temporary. Weather, food, job/money, friends, entertainment, etc all factor in. Singapore is good for all that for me at this point, which is why I've been here for several years. If I was married I think I would have a different set of criteria, and my home in...

The "axis of evil" thing was a bit too melodramatic for me. However, the Iranians elected this guy. He's a nutjob. That some people can blame the US just shows how pervasive the "victim mentality" is around the world. Everything is someone else's fault. Seeing the Euroids squirm is kind of funny th...

She should have said "If they had paid one minute of attention to themselves..." People living their life on the dole, welfare, public assistance, or whatever you want to call it lose the initiative to care for themselves. Why is it always about being saved, rescued, helped, taken care of? How much ...
