Re: Transfer now from OA to SA, you will earn additional interest of:
Please elaborate. And by the way, "Who cares?" CPF contributions either are or they are not. There aren't many choices here. Objectively it's a great deal, but citizens and PRs don't get a choice whether to take that great deal or not. Well, yes and no. Yes in that CPF contributions are mandatory, ...

Re: Standard turnaround time for interview feedback?
Consider this: It is never in HRs interests to tell you that you didn't get the job. Firstly, if they are considering other candidates too, the best you will ever get is a "we're still evaluating" or similar. Or the even more vague "we'll be in touch with the next steps". Secondly, if they tell you ...

I'm with Viewqwest on a 2Gbps plan. Dual-wan router give me 1G and everyone else the other one :D Nice too if you want 1ms pings to the local game servers ;) Viewqwest also does a no-commitment plan which is more expensive but, well, no contract. They also offer a DNS service similar to MyRepublic, ...

Welcome to Singapore where things cost more (TM)
Go ahead and get it shipped. Just check for valves and gas-mix compatibility first.

Re: Getting new british passport/new pages in SG
Ahhh the infamous "streamlining" of the IPS worldwide. All part of the introduction of the Identity Card Register debacle. I think they did issue passports for UK Citizens in Hong Kong as recently as 2010 or so. I remember when I needed to renew mine in Singapore around 2011, you had to take your ol...

For how much? If the cap is $20k per year, that is no coverage at all.lucassmith wrote:

Re: What is the most hip area in Singapore at the moment??
One more thing, You can use the HDB interactive map to check recent rental rates in the block/nearby blocks: http://services2.hdb.gov.sg/web/fi10/emap.html If you're going private, I believe the URA has a similar list of rental prices. And as mentioned, it's a renter's market SO HAGGLE! And when you...

Re: What health Insurance to sign up for?
Not possible to say because you haven't indicated what level of coverage these group policies will give you. If the cap is, say, $20,000 per year you are screwed if you get anything more than a simple broken arm. Anything less than an annual $300,000 limit might not cover you in Singapore. There is ...

Re: What is the most hip area in Singapore at the moment??
Yes, easy to find a place in one month. It's a renters market at the moment, so prices are low-ish. I think you can get an HDB of approx. 700sq ft for around $2k. Interior décor will vary widely, so best to view a few units. With Aircon, utilities and services you can probably get it all for under $...

Re: Compensation from landlord due to early termination of contract
You have possession - the LL cannot just throw you out, even if he calls the police they won't act without a court order and if he tries to get a court order there is your case for damages. No offence PNGMK, but this is not exactly true. The Landlord is actually the HDB and they *can* throw out a t...

Re: Compensation from landlord due to early termination of contract
This application form: http://www.hdb.gov.sg/cs/infoweb/doc/subletting-of-flat-application-form has all the T&Cs the landlord must meet to sublet his HDB to you. Might be worth a read, especially: 1 Flat owner(s) and their proposed subtenant(s)/occupier(s) must satisfy the above stated eligibility r...

Re: The anatomy of a 'Full English breakfast' :)
Important to note (for our American friends), "bacon" is back bacon that is cooked until it starts to get crispy around the edges. Not that awful streaky bacon that is deep friend until it snaps.

Re: Rent options @ $2k / month
Can get a 2bed HDB around Telok Blangah for around $2k...two stops on the bus to Vivocity (EW line, supermarkets, gym) and probably three or four bus stops in the other direction to Tajong Pager (I dunno, I drive).

Plagiarising Journos.
I think I am right to accuse Lynette Tan from get.com of plagiarising these boards for her articles. Take a look here: https://get.com/sg/blog/living-boat-expensive-or-cheap/ Compare and contrast with this post: http://forum.singaporeexpats.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=108043&p=725330&hilit=living+on+a+...
