Re: Vietnamese food

When I went to Long Phung (pre-Covid), I went on the weekend but always arrived early, around 5-5:30pm to beat the queue... by 6pm at least a dozen ppl outside waiting for a table.

Re: Vietnamese food

I second Long Phung, it is one of the most authentic Vietnamese on the island. In a pinch, if you want something more convenient, you can try Nam Nam which has some ok dishes, but manage your expectations. It is ironic that you can find better and more authentic Vietnamese in the USA. Same goes for ...

Re: The "BBC': are they / it truly impartial / non-political ?

They used to be fairly neutral and unbiased, however, in recent years they have clearly developed a liberal bias. It is sad, because there are almost no media sources left that are truly balanced anymore. As a media consumer, it’s tiresome to constantly be on guard against bias on both sides, knowin...

As long as you have a pending EP, they will extend your visit - be sure and do it!

Re: Looking for advice on LTVP and PR

I might be in an almost identical situation in the future, so I’m very curious about this too. One would expect it shouldn’t be a problem on the surface... but what lies beneath?

Re: PR Dilemma - Help needed

Things have definitely gotten more expensive in the US. When I left in 1996 my 1br apartment in Grand Rapids was $300/mo... today it would be 2-3x that. The 650sqft house I bought in Kalamazoo in 2007 for $38,000 is now worth almost $80,000!

Re: PR Dilemma - Help needed

I didn’t see Highland Park on the list of best schools in the Dallas area, but I’ll assume it is... a quick check shows 3br apartments there range from $1.5-$6.5k per month. I presume you would compare these high end apartments in Highland Park with something like the Claymore area in Singapore... w...

Re: Work permit pregnant for 2 month before marriage

Yes, with one Singaporean parent, being born in Singapore means mandatory citizenship, with potential NS obligations. Not so if born outside Singapore. On the surface it seems like a classic bait and switch. Hard to say whether that was the reality though. I’ve noticed over the last 10 years or so, ...

Re: Is property a hedge against inflation?

If you look at the very long term historical trend here over longer 20-30 year timeframes, the appreciation rate here is about 5-6% per annum, which is very similar to other parts of the world. What is not similar is the wild swings in between that can cause even a 10-15 year holding period to end u...

Re: Pizza Hut US to close down

I’m just glad they have Little Caesars here now (affectionately known as little sleazers). Price is cheap enough and taste is good enough... takes me back to my college days. Pizza Hut has got to be one of the worst pizza chains. I’m amazed they have fared so well. The only really good pizza I remem...

Re: Work permit pregnant for 2 month before marriage

Yep, you definitely have to be prepared for rejection... you can try to appeal but there are no guarantees. My plan was to head for Guam if my second and final appeal fell through. I’m a bit surprised in the sms’s nephew’s case, since they already approved her LTVP once, I’d expect they would have r...

Re: work termination during PR application

Thank you everyone for your advice and comment. This forum is helpful. Do you have a reason to stay in Singapore after your job ends, any family connections here? Singapore tends to prefer people who have a reason to sink roots. Singapore may also consider your former citizenship depending on how l...

Re: PR Dilemma - Help needed

US is big, so I'd say it really depends. My last visits to US I'm always surprised how expensive it is, still maybe a bit cheaper than Australia. Eating out is about 1usd to 1sgd if not more when you add the mandatory tips. My destination are Seattle, Dallas, LA (places where could find well paid j...

Re: PR Dilemma - Help needed

The OP seems fine being a minority in either country - the question is, which has better prospects for citizenship and a family? The two main reasons people stay in Singapore are love or money. Love meaning any family or social connections, and money is anything from career prospects to an expat pac...
