Re: Police raids handphone shops

Apparently the people let the guard down because the sender id came directly as legit OCBC..can't blame them especially sometimes you are busy/inattentive and to overlook the tiniest details. At least they have a happy ending receiving the goodwill payouts. Phew.. The scammers are getting smarter a...

Re: Police raids handphone shops

I think there have been far too many data leaks here (and some really bad ones) and the gahmen has NOT slapped the source of the leaks (poorly secured data held by telcos etc) hard enough. I remember just some time ago there was a huge Singpass data leak… can’t imagine how they haven’t learned thei...

Re: Ninja brand appliances

The Ninja blender is great. Very powerful, relatively easy to clean as well. Alternatively, perhaps you may want to have a look at the NutriBullet if your main intended usage is for smoothies.

Re: Mask thief

Most likely. I would have guessed that its just a selfish Singaporean being kiasu and wanting more for themselves, but this is way too much to have been the case. Either way, so awful, what makes her more deserving than any of the foreign workers?

Re: If you could turn back the clock to 5 years ago...what would you do?

Nowadays everything has gone up in price, not surprised to see the HDBs being as costly as they are. Especially those in prime locations/jumbo flats. Still a great value for money for what you get, but I guess the shock lies in the fact that government housing is supposed to affordable. Each ballot...

Nice that they are still in contact so many years later, my late grandmother stayed close with her Cuban neighbors for the full 60 years that she lived in her house. They could never really communicate too well, but got by with her broken Spanish and the neighbor’s broken English. No sex jokes though.

Re: Police raids handphone shops

To be clear while I am pleased OCBC are paying out to those scammed I do feel the gahmen here is really letting the side down on cyber security. The SenderID issue (which is how these people were tricked) is a govt regulation issue. The theft of NRIC data from MyRepublic needs the govt to step in w...

Re: is haze season back again?

Do they ever stop burning? Seems like every time there is a haze issue they are the culprits. So inconsiderate both to their neighbors and to the environment. Indonesia's environmental record is absolutely atrocious. Vast swatches of virgin old rain forest are cut and burned every year, to plant......

Burned smell was back tonight with the winds. But seems it is only in the east area, which can give some hint where it's coming from
So disheartening. I’m surprised there aren’t more laws prohibiting this kind of incessant burning.

Re: is haze season back again?

It would appear that it could be haze/smoke from fires in the Riau Province of Sumatra. https://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=b8f4033069f141729ffb298b7418b653 Open link then click map viewer on right side of page. Once it opens zoom into the area and the individual hotspots will be shown. They c...

Re: OCBC Saga

None of this would have happened if the SMS SenderID hadn't allowed the fraudulent SMS to be "grouped" together with legitimate SMS's from a bank. That is a government regulators fault. Full stop. Now I agree "don't click links" but OCBC has sent legitimate links about their business before. I agre...

Re: OCBC Saga

Phishing is common nowadays. I think consumers should be more careful on clicking on links. Always verify the website domain name before clicking or keying in any sensitive information. When the url does not shows OCBC.com, it is more likely a phishing site. The gov can do much more in educating th...

Re: Are we seeing less cinemas in the future?

Hope so too, as much as I appreciate the convenience of streaming, it will never replace the experience and ambience of going to the cinema. The smell of the fresh (overpriced) popcorn, the chatter from other excited moviegoers, the plush seats all add to the experience.
