Re: Coding School for Kids

Exactly, in my opinion nothing beats real world experience. Unfortunately, in most contexts the paper qualification is what gets your foot in the door, without it it is difficult to get by on experience alone.

Perhaps they are just not ready, and don’t want to get married purely for immigration purposes.

Re: Agency to do Work Pass for Helper

The only thing I can imagine doing would be to reach out to the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), they are typically the governing body that overseas any and all employment queries and issues.

Re: Covid situation not looking so good?

Doubt it will do anything significant. Really worrying to see the cases rise day after day, the spike came from seemingly nowhere.

Re: Where will you retire?

25x the annual expenses you want to cover is the gold standard. This requires you to invest & rebalance appropriately, and follow safe withdrawal rules using the 4% guideline. Not to sound ignorant, but what exactly is the 4% rule? It’s the % of your portfolio value you can safely withdraw from yea...

Re: Where will you retire?

I heard Cambodia has a 3 year “business” visa that doesn’t require you to conduct any business. Apparently that is the visa of choice among retirees there. Cambodia is definitely economical and has a lot of natural beauty. Infrastructure has been improving with Chinese money, but it’s still kinda r...

Re: Fitness tips for gym newbies

Hmm... to be honest, asking for exercise tips on a forum is probably not the best approach. Since you are completely new to the gym, I think it is best to sign up for a personal training package with a definitive 'exit point'. This means that you work with the trainer to identify the best combinati...

Re: Fitness tips for gym newbies

I'm not claiming to be an expert here, but one important thing I've learned over the years is to remember to rest enough between exercise, and usually better have different days for cardio vs weights, and not to go over the top when starting new exercise routines, but give your body time to adjust....

Re: Fitness tips for gym newbies

Depends on goals. But my general advice is that free weights and cardio machines are generally what most people need. At the very least, what most people should do for balanced a balanced lifting experience is : 1. Barbell or dumbell presses. Flat bench or standing shoulder presses or a bit of both...

Re: How to lose weight?

Exactly what I’ve been saying, but a couple posters don’t seem to understand that. It doesn’t really matter what you eat (although weight loss without good nutrition is counterintuitive), at the end of the day all that matters is the calories burnt exceeds calories consumed. Yes correct. The proble...

Re: How to lose weight?

No point in arguing with people with limited knowledge who know it all I say. My thoughts exactly, I’ve had some pretty fruitful interactions with midlet on other threads, but our views seem to diverge on this topic. Calories from carb is not the same as calorie from fat n protein. To lose weight, ...

Re: How to lose weight?

Well for all saying this works and that doesn't, at the end of the day, whichever way you achieve weight loss, at the end of the day it is calories in vs out. All the micro vs macro manipulation boils down to just calorie reduction. You can do all the keto diet you want, but if you are in a calorie...
