Any reason why? My understanding is that learners typically pick auto because its cheaper, easier to learn, and less time consuming.
If you test with an automatic, you can only get a class 3A license and you are not legal to drive any car with a clutch.

Re: is haze season back again?

Why? Singapore is over 2600 times smaller than Indonesia. The figures may be staggering at first glance, but a closer look at the size difference between the two countries helps to put these figures into perspective. Doesn’t make any of the burning okay, it’s still obviously excessive, but it does ...

Re: is haze season back again?

Agree, although its also crazy to think about how the actions of a few can cause such a large scale effect. A couple burning plantations creates pollution issues for countries hundreds of miles away. If only it were a "couple burning plantations". More than 2.4 million acres was burned last year. T...

Re: Working freelance in Singapore

Great stuff, PNGMK... it illuminates both how complex things can get, and the essential rule that governs personal income tax assessment... "income derived in Singapore".

It would appear that it could be haze/smoke from fires in the Riau Province of Sumatra. https://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=b8f4033069f141729ffb298b7418b653 Open link then click map viewer on right side of page. Re: is haze season back again?

It could be Malaysia because there is still plenty of corruption in the country, as government officials look the other way. However, as a rule, Malaysia does a better job of plowing and burying old growth forests and old palm oil plantations than does Indonesia, where rampant corruption permits sla...

Re: Working freelance in Singapore

What you absolutely cannot do is displace a Singaporean from a job without permission (unless you are a PR). THIS! If you want to understand the philosophical underpinnings of the entire work permit system for Singapore, it is as PNGMK stated. If the job you want to take would keep a Singaporean li...

Re: Working freelance in Singapore

Question re: double taxation. Working remotely for US company and will be taxed by federal and state (greater than 20%). I saw in the IRAS tax guide that I could possibly file a tax exemption if I pay >15% elsewhere? Or did I (most likely) interpret that wrong? Permit me to preface my remarks by sa...

Re: Working freelance in Singapore

The company in the EU that you will work must have no legal presence in Singapore, and cannot provide goods or services in Singapore. Example 1: The company you work for in the EU provides accounting services for clients exclusively located in the EU. You can work remotely for this company while li...

Re: Isn’t it easy to get EP now?

Are you getting paid in SGD in Singapore? It doesn't matter. Where one is getting paid and the currency in which one is paid are both irrelevant to the tax situation. Is this income taxable in Singapore? I'm wondering just which part of the arrangement isn't bending rules. While there is incomplete...

Re: Electrician to change socket type

Some of this is easy to do, other stuff, not so easy. It is very easy to replace the plug ends that go into wall outlets. Anyone with a basic knowledge of electricity and a bit of handyman ability can swap out the ends. But, that's only the beginning. The appliances must be capable of running on 120...

In the same way the pool atop Marina Bay Sands is kept uncomfortably cold in order to prevent overcrowding... An interesting factoid. Is it actually true? From what I can tell, it is simply unheated, relying upon the sun for warmth. https://www.tripadvisor.com.sg/ShowTopic-g294265-i1748-k7542005-In...

Sorry, what is Barry's Bootcamp all about?
It’s a HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workout class. Famous for its red room classes and proven results, but not sure if it’s right for me.

Re: Hong Kong is better?

Well, what Beijing cares about is the land and not the people in it. The people are easily replaced if they don't fall in line - happens in much larger provinces, forget about Hong Kong. Indeed... just look what they've done to the Uighurs and the mass in migration of laborers into Cambodia and Lao...
