Re: Absence from Singapore

Also, i think the government probably gives exemption to business-related travels like yours, but may not to remote-work-travel like what I intend. What do you mean by "remote work travel"? Are you aware that there is virtually no country that you can go to for more than 90 days every calendar year...

Re: Shooting at US grocery stores

I'm waiting for some yahoo to yet again state, "An armed society is a polite society." Nothing could be further from the truth, and it's the reason that our ancestors put gun laws into place.

This obsession with guns really needs to be included in the DSM manual of psychiatric diagnoses.

Re: Absence from Singapore

Thanks, why you think so? Because, what they care about are folks like the clowns from the subcontinent who get PR, then immediately return back to India to work and live for 3 of their 5 year "PR". Traveling for a few weeks, or even a few months, while retaining a Singapore residence, is a far dif...

Re: Orchard Tower- Warning!

That's a good idea on using NETS. A better idea to avoid OT after dark. No respectable non-diver should be in there after dark. OT was/is pretty tame compared to quite a few other places in Singapore. I was taken to a few bars on Duxton Hill. Not only could you get a blow job under the table, if yo...

Re: West facing house

If my iPhone compass is to be believed, my windows face due north, but it seems more NW to me. I get some indirect afternoon sun (today was especially brutal). My in-laws have the unit just opposite to us facing S/SE and they get no afternoon sun — they also get a nice breeze in the hotter summer m...

Re: Incorporating in SG for an IT startup

Plenty of Russians and Albanians here running pubs and the like (MD may be a little out of touch with that). Indeed, I am out of touch. It's been 9 years since I left the red dot. At the time I lived there, I was curious how the thugs in ill fitting suits that were the bouncers at the Russian club ...

Re: Incorporating in SG for an IT startup

Thank you for the information! So basically it's about paying taxes for the income received as a sole proprietor and having solid documentation on what has been happening - information about customers, invoices, the product itself; then having a solid business plan and letters of commitment from th...

Re: Incorporating in SG for an IT startup

Thank you for the detailed response! 1. Yes, you're correct, as far as I know it is illegal to run a business as an individual in my own name and receive payments to a personal bank account for that. However, it was always very small because the target audience of the project is very small. Under "...

Re: Incorporating in SG for an IT startup

Hi all, I have read lots of threads here that are related to my questions but didn't find a definitive answer so I'll try my luck and open my own. I'm grateful in advance to everyone who will take their time to read it and share any thoughts/information. We have a small IT startup that has been up ...

Re: Bye Bye Singapore

^what I believe is that there are many common folks who don't mind that kind of arrangement. A case where the government policy reflects the attitude of the society. You could feel it in people's attitudes before the pandemic. You need the labor because they build stuff, clean stuff and so on. But ...

Re: CPF medishield liability

I left Singapore with about 3 years left on my PR. Medishield premiums were deducted from my CPF account even though I wasn't present in Singapore any more. Emails to CPF confirmed that I had to pay this so long as I was PR. That included my last partial year. A full year's of premiums was deducted,...

Re: Bye Bye Singapore

Wow! You probably remember me as Strong Eagle when I was active as a mod on the board, and I remember you as the individual who jumped through the many hoops put in place for an Entrepass. You led the way in showing how it could be done. I would be most interested in hearing about your experiences, ...

Re: Working Remotely with Dependant's Pass

I can confirm you can work as long as your job function do not have any kind of business relationship with any Singapore-based company or client. Tbh MOM is amazingly responsive to queries. Got my answer in less than 6 hrs. @swiftrobber Could you please share the response you received from MOM here...
