Re: Where will you retire?

I really enjoy listening to all the various reasons about where you choose to retire, and they're all great reasons. Thank you. Hey, Rob! Good to hear from you. Glad you are still up and kicking, covid be damned! Yeah, I've bit the bullet and with 3 grandchildren here now and my son & his wife work...

Re: Where will you retire?

Aside from a US checking account where my SS is direct deposited and 2 CCs I have already zero'd any assets in the US around 3 years ago after my mother died and I lost the farm. Literally.

Re: Where will you retire?

The fact that I can apply for and get SGC even though I've retired is a bonus I didn't count on and am seriously thinking of taking advantage of it (retired parents of Singapore citizens (I have two of them) Interesting, I though there was an age limit of 50 or something to apply/convert to SGC. Th...

Re: Where will you retire?

Yep, very true. The locals taught them very well how to game the system.

Re: Where will you retire?

PPF, as an addendum to the above, giving elderly PRs or allowing them to stay as PRs also has the added advantage to Singapore as if they give up their PR without taking up SGC and they had local families like I did, they take a chance of losing one PR (no bid deal) but also take the chance of losin...

Re: Where will you retire?

I'm afraid I have to disagree, PPF. I'm a long term PR (over quarter of a century). In the early days I didn't know where I would retire so I always left a return to the US open. I had two children by a Sg mother but both had dual citizenship from birth (cannot quite pull it off today). They each ha...

Re: Covid numbers are still high

So, back to Covid. Yes, I'm fully vaxxed + booster. I don't know how covid will affect me, but that's not the reason why I've opted to get it all. Vaxxing will not stop you from catching it, but it might make it relatively minor in the overall scope of things and it might stop me from infecting othe...

Re: Covid numbers are still high

Mal, you raise a good point. While my kids are pretty resistant to things like the flu & common colds, my wife isn't. It would appear, in hindsight that you may be right. Not to the level that I have because mine is not genetic but induced by unconscious mind control (survival instinct when I was bo...

Re: Covid numbers are still high

Some years are worse than other. Not everybody get the annual flu vaccine. I've never had one. But just like Covid, it's mostly the elderly and those with underlying issues. Sama-sama. Flu deaths in US pa.jpg You’ve never gotten the flu vaccine? Why not? In my mind the flu is one of the most preven...

Re: British - Moving to SG (Wife is SC)

My first contract was for 1 year as well, but the company subsequently rolled it over 7 more time. By that time, I had a local wife and 2 kids - the eldest starting P1 so had to do some hard thinking on the future. Next June 11th I will have been here 40 years now. Go figure!

Re: Covid numbers are still high

They were up through the 15th of Sept. This was the last post from Gov.sg that gave specific info for unvaxxed but not actual numbers although it could be figured out. [Sent by Gov.sg – 16 Sep] As of 15 Sep 2021, 12pm, 822 COVID-19 cases are warded in hospital. There are 76 cases of serious illness ...
