Re: Job interview

Might just be me but I wouldn't stop looking and applying until an offer is extended. An interview doesn't warrant exclusivity.

Re: Need some advice

I can't speak to that industry, but I can tell you one I think I learned far too late in life. If you are unhappy figure out why and fix it. There is literally no one else in the world who will or can do it for you. It might be hard, but nothing worth doing is ever easy. Might not always mean changi...

Re: Not sure why I'm getting so many job rejections

I have been casually perusing opportunities on Linkedin, jobstreet, recruiters, and direct applications for about a month now. Started ramping up things recently but still have had similar results as you. One or two rejections, and a whole lot of crickets. I have yet to have a single recruiter respo...

Re: Any workshops or courses to improve communication

I know udemy and coursera have some courses like this, as does linkedin learning. Youtube probably has thousands but no telling the quality. Toastmasters club is good resource for group and public speaking experience. Most community colleges in the US have good courses on it as well, not sure about ...

Re: Most common interview questions

How many apples would it take to fill up this room? What's the job/industry? If the job is a good fit you should just need to rely on your own experience. Your best bet is to look over your CV and remind yourself your accomplishments, walk through them in your head, even better if you do it out loud...

Re: Positive Experiences/Success Stories

Thank you so much for this, both of you. It gives me some needed and relevant perspective. Also, very interesting to hear the backstories of the "old timer expats" (I mean that as a compliment!). I have been browsing several MNC job boards (tech, finance, big4, R&D firms, even Deloitte *shudder*) as...

Re: Positive Experiences/Success Stories

Well, the wife and I are going somewhere. We both have been wanting to live abroad for years and are finally reaching a point where that is possible, both personally and professionally. I love the tropics so were going somewhere warm and humid for a change (Rocky Mountain air ain't cuttin it for me)...

Re: Positive Experiences/Success Stories

Yeah, I can't imagine cold calling and resume drive-by's are successful tactics. I have seen plenty of postings in the last few weeks mentioning visa sponsorship. Admittedly I am mostly looking at large MNC's. But it still counts. And to clarify as I have seen this come up in other posts, I am refer...

Re: Furnishing an apartment

In my limited research it looks like used furniture isn't a common thing. That said, I've seen some good deals on Craigslist for furniture. Carousell and gumtree are other sources I have seen suggested but haven't looked into yet. Might check freecycle as well.

Positive Experiences/Success Stories

I see lots of doom and gloom about the difficulties getting jobs and dealing with recruiters in Singapore, and I don't doubt the wisdom behind it, but does anyone have any positive experiences? Not looking for advertising or referrals but general good experiences with getting a job or relocating to ...

Re: I don't think he's getting PR

Yikes, I saw that earlier. I made plenty of stupid drunk mistakes in my day, but it was always goofy stuff. Never got violent or aggressive. I just don't like breaking rules I guess, even when I've had a bit to drink. I wish more people would recognize they aren't just making asses out of themselves...

Re: Career Resource Center for Expatriates-useful or useless?

Well after reading some more on here the consensus seems to be its nigh impossible for an expat to get a job at the moment and I should wait until elections are over. Looks like those are in 2021, and the subscription is only for a year, so Ill pass and look at other countries in the near term. I'll...

Re: Career Resource Center for Expatriates-useful or useless?

Resurrecting this old one to check and see if this advice still applies. A google search led me here, not many other resources I could find. Plus I've been lurking and meaning to make an account here for a while, so here I am! Is the $220USD/year fee worth it in 2019? Anyone have any recent experien...
