Any programmers doing remote work out there?
Hi, I'm a programmer who is interested in getting into doing remote work as I'm struggling to get a local job in Singapore (mainly because of my current visa). I've been a programmer quite a long time but never done any remote work. I would be really keen to hear from (and even meet) any programmers...

Re: Not sure why I'm getting so many job rejections
Just to give a little update on how I've changed my strategy (it will probably change again next week ;-)). I'm still applying to jobs I see on linkedin, jobstreet etc. however I'm now very actively finding as many of the agencies that deal with IT jobs, finding the relevant recruiters and connectin...

Thanks WJ, you made some good points. Any tips about the best way to network with people here? What lines of communication/platforms work best here?

Re: Not sure why I'm getting so many job rejections
Thanks for all the responses guys. I'm here in the country under DP but have been told that I have "privilege to work in Singapore" and like SMS mentioned "employer can apply for a Letter of Consent" for me to work in Singapore. I'm starting to strongly suspect this is the problem. A HR department o...

Not sure why I'm getting so many job rejections
Hi, I'm British, live in SG and have the right to work here (I'm originally here because of my wife). However, in the past month+ I have applied to over 15 jobs that are very relevant to my skill set and I've been met with either complete silence or a rejection email (I've yet to get even a first in...

Dentist recommendation for implant that is less expensive
Hi all, So a few days ago one of my teeth seared right off at the gum line (I had a root canal done a couple of years ago on that tooth and its now broken off). Dentist says I dont have any immediate problem, like gum disease etc. but in the slightly longer term I would like to have an implant (fals...

Re: WhatsApp group for newly arrived peeps
Hi all! Late 30s M from London. Been here a week (but gonna be here for year+), not working for quite a while at the moment so plenty of free time. Don't really know anyone here apart from my wife. Looking to meet new people. Feel free to private message me, I get along with most people regardless o...

Re: VPN Recommendation
How is AirVPN? Since you're using it for five years I guess you're satisfied? Speeds, leaks, bypassing geo restrictions all good? Haven't tried them but I can see why looks very expensive :D For cheaper alternatives here's a review on Surfshark https://www.comparitech.com/vpn/reviews/surfshark-revi...

Re: Is 1Gbps really 1Gbps?
You will find that the speed within Singapore is probably close to that, but when leaving singapore you get whatever the backbone can support which means in peak times it may be slower. I am a techie and never bothered to test the speed because it is pretty quick and there is no point. I just teste...

Is 1Gbps really 1Gbps?
Hi, I'm very new to SG and looking to get a fibre internet connection. Could someone tell me what sort of speeds I can expect if I opt for a 1Gbps connection? In London (UK) I have a 1Gbps fibre to the premises line and it runs about 950Mbps up and down. Also, is it only Singtel that offer proper 1G...

Re: VPN Recommendation
AirVPN - https://airvpn.org/ ... Been using it for about 5 years. Free ones I wouldnt touch if you value your privacy/security (also usually very slow). I have tried others, NordVPN I found to be awful (even though they are now quite big). Their software often leaks your IP and they dont have a prop...

Buying cardboard boxes
Hi, I need to buy a few cardboard boxes (medium sized) as I need to move some stuff from my temp accom to my perm accom next week sometime. Does anyone know somewhere I can buy some (apart from Ikea :-))? I'm currently staying in the CBD area. The boxes are for mainly clothes so I would prefer new o...
