Re: Looking for Advice to Get Exempted From NS

Well it looks like I better get myself mentally prepared for NS then. Anyone can give any insights as to how it's like? How are the living conditions? Do you get free time while in there?

Re: Looking for Advice to Get Exempted From NS

Well that sucks. My dad and I got our PRs at the same time but my mom is getting a citizenship here very soon and she can bring me in with her. (Edit: My mom came here to work when I was 3, so she is eligible for citizenship here). That just leaves my dad and there seems to be nothing he can do. I g...

Re: Looking for Advice to Get Exempted From NS

What? I thought that the process of telling the Singapore government about renouncing my citizenship and getting a deferment was a legal way of getting an exemption from NS? So you're saying that this is actually illegal and there's no actual way of getting off the hook? What's the point of doing th...

Re: Looking for Advice to Get Exempted From NS

Should the physical letter and email be the same or different? Also, should the letter be from me or my parents, or both?

Should I also be asking them to defer my NS or should it be done in a separate letter/to a different department?

Re: Looking for Advice to Get Exempted From NS

So what I should do first is to inform CMPB about my choice to renounce citizenship at 21? And should this be a physical paper letter mailed to them or an email?

Re: Looking for Advice to Get Exempted From NS

The thing is, I have no intentions of going back to Singapore aside from visiting, so I don't want to go to NS and delay my life here in the US. In the end, if all my attempts have failed, I'll end up going back for NS, but that is definitely not ideal. So what you are saying is my dad will have to ...

Re: Looking for Advice to Get Exempted From NS

Your family need to cut all ties with Singapore ASAP and you need to inform CMPB immediately of your intention to renounce SC. See the second link I posted above. Sorry to bother you again, but I'm not sure who to contact in order to inform Singapore of my intention to renounce my citizenship. From...

Re: Looking for Advice to Get Exempted From NS

I'm assuming that I also have to get my exit permit renewed? I also have another question. Assuming I do get the deferment, do my parents still have to pay the bond?

Re: Looking for Advice to Get Exempted From NS

My parents are quite supportive of me getting exempted from NS. My father was actually not born in Singapore, it's just that he acquire Singaporean citizenship. So in this case, should my dad renounce his citizenship ASAP? My exit permit has no expired yet actually. I got my permit a few months late...

Re: Looking for Advice to Get Exempted From NS

The thing is, I'm not doing this to get out of NS. I do not have plans on going back to Singapore, maybe for the occasional visit, or if my plane gets diverted as you said. I don't know what you mean by "another permit", I thought I only needed one? My dad will probably give up his Singapo...

Re: Looking for Advice to Get Exempted From NS

Well, the thing is I hold dual citizenship between China and Singapore but I want to live in the United States. Also, I can't get citizenship for the United States until I've lived here for 5 years. It feels a bit weird to prove citizenship for another country that I won't be living in, will it work...

Looking for Advice to Get Exempted From NS

Hello, I would really appreciate it if anyone could provide me with a step-by-step process on how to get exempted from NS (if possible). I am turning 15 years old within a month. I was born in Singapore as a dual-citizen (Singapore and China). My Chinese passport expired when I was 6 and it was neve...
