So you would run a heat exchanger between the two loops then ?

Lots of cheap heat exchangers on ebay :) .

Of course the chiller is not cheap and, presumably, would generate its own heat as well.

I have got a few items from Taobao through one of my customers who orders on there every now and then. The items were branded (XSPC etc) and seemed to be genuine. Koolance do a 4 fan copper core rad (30 fpi) for US$75.99. The only issue I would have with chillers would be having to watch the dew poi...

My own design was to use a fish tank pump. Output goes from the pump to the top of the rack where it is capped (possibily with an air bleed system) with feeds taken for individual servers (quick release connectors). On the other side there is main trunk pipe which takes the output from the individua...

Depends on the orientation of the in and out ports, clearance around the CPU socket and a reasonible flow path to a second CPU and back again in the case of dual processor systems (which the C6100 is). When the second CPU is up and 45deg to the right a custom solution is needed. The all-in-one units...

Yeah, was thinking the same thing. A lot has changed. Importing, refurbishing and modding the C6100 units gave me a little pocket money to play with pet projects :) . Good to hear that board is still running well for you. The new Atom boards with loads of sata ports are also seeming to be very popul...

Not really lurking but I do still get email notifications on topic updates :) Well a lot of things have changed in a year and a bit. I now have a Dell C6100 4 node 2U cloud server (2x E5520s and 24GB per node). Works great as an ESXi cluster in a 2U box. I also modded the fans to make them much quie...

I don't recall the Mio phone not working for us but it was a while ago. The problem is the MioTV set top boxes. They would grab an IP from my DHCP server rather than from the router which caused them to be on a different subnet to the MioTV server so no streaming. Trying to get info on what happens ...

Ok, been a bit slow here so a few pictures. My current setup http://i1119.photobucket.com/albums/k626/smallsizeservers/Hardware/Home%20Setup/RackMD1000_zpsecbc07e2.jpg I managed to get a great deal on a 17" 1U KVM drawer. http://i1119.photobucket.com/albums/k626/smallsizeservers/Hardware/Home%2...

I have the 300Mb/s connection on fibre and chose it due to the International up / download speeds being the top tier on offer at the time. Bundled with the MioTV package, compared to what we already had, it also worked out cheaper. I generally get 3MB/s international and have seen it top around 7MB/...

Thanks RB. I was hoping for a response like this. What is the benefit for the OS seeing the resource as a physical disk rather than a file system? If this is for a shared spaced (it seems so to me) than the ability of OS to handle a specific FS will still determine the availability of the "dev...

Re: iSCSI SAN

What is the difference between this (in bold) and a network attached FS via NFS or Samba shares? Leaving aside some half-competent descriptions, is it about multi-node (server) parallel access to the data distributed over multiple storage nodes? I have at this point single continues use storage ser...

Glad you liked it. Part two, currently being written, is more on the PC side. Initially the articles we to be concentrating on the technology that makes virtualization work but found that to explain how and why they work it is helpful to understand how computing progressed through single process to ...

As promised, for those that are interested, the first part of my vitualization series is up on ServeTheHome here . It covers a brief history of virtualization on Supercomputers and Mainframes from the 1950s onwards, concentrating more on the innovations that got us to where we are today. The second ...

I seem to remember a lot of stories about credit card, etc. details getting stolen from PayPal, and other security / identity theft issues with them. My info is probably outdated, but anyone hear of or experience these? I have a business account with them an a personal account. Both get used fairly...
